Short office buildings

Just took a walk around the city. So many new buildings which came up since I took my last long stroll around 2005/6. Decided to start a thread for the small and random buildings in the city which we all overlook.

110 Robinson Road, the thinest building in Singapore! 12 storeys tall, only 5m wide!

The ground floor is occupied by a dentist. A narrow stairs leads up to the mezzanine above the dentist where the lift lobby is.

I wonder if it would pose a challenge to an architect if it could be re-developed into a 50 level building, ie 5 mtr wide by 170mtr high? hmmm .....

Ah, but i think the developer would consider redeveloping an adjacent building or any building behind altogether by buying them over.

Must be one of those "hold out" properties last time. Self developed. All the offices here are built on originally shophouse plots.

Thinnest by actual width might be this. Thinnest by proportion might be Newton Gems.

There's some 5-8 storey ones around Carpenter Street area which are very slim also, being built on shophouse plots but had regenerated into midrises

Yes newton gems is very thin. Didnt expect it to be Thinnest by proportion... I think some condos in the orchard road area are thinner.

Are they demolishing that building or just putting on a new coat. We need more metal and shiny futurist building in that area to complement the library, carlton hotel, the new south beach developments and odeon towers..

That building just looks so weird each time I see it...then again its amazing what they have come up with on such a plot. I much prefer Newton 200:

A recently completed office building opposite Clarke Quay, by Tange Associates. Believe that the leaning shophouse had to be demolished as it became unstable. It should be reconstructed though.

Welcome back RC!

Do you have an actual pic of the Clarke Quay building? Just wondering if it turned out close to the render. Feels kinda blocky.

Thanks!

Nope not been snapping of late myself LOL but keep your eyes peeled for it. This building surprised me with its bulk. Its amazing what a monster it can be given the seemingly small plot it's on.

many buildings have things like 'allowance voids' within the building to make up for surplus or shortage gfa without compromising on the exterior, perhaps this one is one such case?
