All interior pics are from the same apartment. Since Søndre Kvartal is still under construction, it is only that one apartment that has been completed to show prospective buyers. The rest of the apartments will not be ready until December.

Nobody has mentioned that the Hotel (Scandic Vulcan) has opened. I think I saw some opening party there yesterday.

That`s not graffiti! It`s a tag.. Difference is, graffiti can be art, tags cannot!

Does anyone have the renders for Nordre Kvartal?

Thanks!
I like the density, but it looks like we aren`t getting any shops on the ground floor. That would be a downer..

That's a typical mistake (in my eyes) made by the developers, not to include any service or sales towards the street. It's way too often we see project where this is the case. Makes the street dead

Most commercial areas will be at the the upper level, 4th and 5th floor, which is the height Maridalsveien is at. There will also be 120 sqm at 1st floor, but this is obviously not much. The three lowest floors (+basement) functions as a parking garage for all of Vulkan.

the building with red bit seems to be occupied; the only word i can recall said 'hotel' but it seemed independant to the Scandia building...

All the way from the red steel bit to "Fabrikken" is part of the Scandic. The only part with apartments can be seen here: http://vulkanoslo.no/default.aspx?menu=53

There are two hotels next to each other. One is Scandic hotel, and the tower next to it - the building that seemed occupied - is PS:Hotel. The hotel is staffed mostly by people who have been out of work for long periods, unemployed, people with disabilities etc and need work experience to get into the work force. The idea behind it is said to be Jamie Oliver's restaurant 14. in London

http://www.pshotell.no/

At Søndre Kvartal the five buildings to the left of the hotels, will be: Ground floors - shops/restaurants, 2nd & 3rd floors - offices and 4th to 6th/7th floors are the 27 apartements.

And by the way, the Søndre kvartal project was recently delayed by 2 months.... The apartments was supposed to be ready in December, but it has now been pushed back to sometime in February - effectively March 1st I guess.

now, you mention it, i think some of the other words that slipped my mind were of the 'opportunities' 'special needs' variety, it certainly did not look anything like the very stylish vintage retro scandic lobby...more like the foyer of the anker hostel....

Looks great. The concept of combining selling food to take home and nibbles of food to be eaten on the spot (some call it tapas) works very well in the Mercado de San Miguel, a re-opened old market in Madrid. If you are allowed to buy wine and beer for local consumption too, without the need to sit down, it would be great. Walking around with a beer in your hand while checking out cheese and hams....

I guess there are some rules against that.

Picture from random blog, in this case Brillat-Savarin
