Its kinda like they took their inspiration from the folks on St. Pete Beach
Funny, cause those folks were all leftist, anti-growth types - not crazy, business friendly, lovers of all building no matter how bad, right wingers . . That would be an odd influence. . . and it may kill the indian casino revenue (I haven't really checked) but don't let facts get in the way . . oh wait, the casino guys from Las Vegas are pushing this bill . . . who is in the pocket of big business?

In the midst of Scott signing is Draconian budget today, one thing remains that is relavant to this discussion...

Quote:
The budget also includes cash for a study into bringing resort-style casinos to Florida.

^You can count on that being a done deal next legislative session. The only reason it wasn't done this year is they basically ran out of time to go around strongarming legislative opponents.

Expansion starts on Hard Rock to add more gambling space and a 5-story parking garage.

Did you not read the article?

Their plans included a hotel up to 22 stories high with as many as 1,000 rooms, new meeting space and a music hall seating 1,500 to 2,000 fans.

All that remains part of the master plan, Fontana said.

"The plan has always been in phases," he said. "This is the next step toward that.' "

I couldn't see them doing the hotel expansion right now. Doing it is phases make the most sense.

I went by the Hard Rock about two weeks ago. It does look like they are preparing for construction of an additional parking garage and hotel. But I have no clue how large these facilities will actually be (or if it will be on the scale as the recent proposal)
==================

http://www.baynews9.com/article/news...ing-commission

Quote:
An appeals court ruled Thursday that lawmakers can authorize slot machines anywhere in the state of Florida.

Legislators may not stop there. A bill is about to be filed in Tallahassee that could lead to destination resort-casinos in the Sunshine State.

If the bill passes, it could mean billions of dollars a year in new revenue that could be used to help Florida address its ongoing budget issues.

Rep. Erik Fresen, R-Miami, said he's prepared to file a bill that would create a gaming commission, which would have the power to shut down operations like Internet sweepstakes cafes but encourage massive new projects.

They're building a parking garage. No hotel yet.

Anybody see the recent commercials? They say that a people mover connects the new garage to the casino. Can anyone check this out? I might be able to this weekend, but not before then.

If it is something like at other casinos or TIA this will be interesting as it pretty much flew under the radar.

Haven't been there, but I think it's a conveyor belt in an air conditioned ped walkway, not the kind at TIA. More like the ones at Universal.

Really? That would blow. Just call it a moving sidewalk then...but didn't they have those before? Seems odd to specify it as a "people mover".
