I think i've spied Howie and Yoshef having taken excellent pics from here in the past so perhaps a few of these pics may interest them.


Formerly the Technical College and known to us local kids back in the 70s as the poly or polytech when we used to climb its railings for footy matches in its car park. It's main structure was built in 1957 and in fact the steel framework can be seen newly erected on the opening credits of the film 'Violent Playground' which was released by Rank in 1958. When opened, the city engineers department used its high vantage point to record images of various parts of Byrom Street which capture some of the buildings that were to be lost when Byrom Street was widened for the third time a few years later.

Tysons cranes constructing the tall block in 1970/71 as seen from a back veranda on Lionel House. We lived in the top block, Thurlow House and the top landing, end house vantage point gave us a brilliant view of the progress of this building being constructed.
