Aek has explored the city, and isn't even sure if he will come here a s a student - he isn't one of the fuckwits
.The fuckwits are those gits who spend three years here without ever leaving Fallowfield, bang on about how dangerous Moss Side is without knowing they actually virtually live in Moss Side.

There's nowt wrong with Hulme, happily lived there for years and it's not an unsafe area at all. My only criticism of it is perhaps there isn't more going on but it's so close to town I guess that's why.
Moss Side I don't know too well but been to a few parties there and never felt threatened either. Rusholme is fine, vibrant and a great place to live for students. Lots of restaurants and some good pubs up near Whitworth Park as well as shops. Would much rather live there walking distance from uni than student ghetto Fallowfield. Manchester is a great city, absolutely loved my time there. It can be pretty full on, like a big city should be! Don't know if I'll ever move back again but if work took me that way would be happy enough. It still feels like a city on the up despite the recession and I still love visiting. If you move there too hope you have as good a time as I did. |

20 years ago, when crime was much much higher, I lived in Rusholme and worked in an off license in Moss Side for years and years. Walking to and from work in the dark. Never ever had a problem with crime.

The myth that Manchester is 'dangerous', that you will get in to trouble if you dare stray off the Oxford Rd corridor, is largely perpetuated by those who've never left said corridor. When I was a student in Salford and met Manchester/Man Met students, many thought I was 'brave' living 'over there', seriously

I live right near Hulme. I've only ever been through it on the bus but it seems like a pretty good example of successful regeneration.
Manchester isn't as pretty as Liverpool - there's not really an equivalent of Canning, Princes Avenue or Sefton Park (which are popular with Liverpool's students)... but it's a damn fine city and a great place to live! (Plus home is only 40 mins away )I would defo recommend going to uni outside your home city. Uni is the perfect time to try living somewhere new... you don't get that opportunity when you're working full time. |

I visited Liverpool recently, to take lots of pictures, (I know the city well anyway) but this time it was for pleasure and really appreciated just how pretty and stunning Liverpool is.
However there is a lot more money in Manchester, more jobs, more wealth etc and I would guess Manchester is the better place to live for that reason. I love Manchester so much because its like a village in a city, I am really into the alternative scene and going into town is like going into a village pub for me, everybody knows everybody and if I moved any where else I would miss that so much.

But, personally, I'd prefer to live in Liverpool. Despite being incredibly cosmopolitan and diverse, Manchester feels like a standard (large) English city, like a massive Leeds or Nottingham (not that that's a bad thing). Liverpool feels like a small world-city (I suppose that's because it used to be one). I like that. I like how Liverpool doesn't feel like England - how comparisons with other cities always seem to be Dublin, Amsterdam, Hamburg. There's just a different vibe, a different culture. Not superior, just different... and I prefer it. Anyway, this is wildly off topic

I probably didn't explain it well, but I suppose I was meaning there is more opportunity in Manchester than Liverpool but yes if you have a settled job it doesn't really matter.
I could probably live in Liverpool a lot easier than most cities, simply because its only 45 minutes away from Manchester :p However as I get older my priorities will change, so the fact Liverpool isn't full of rock and punk clubs won't bother me

And you're only ever half an hour from home which can only be good.

![]() I don't really have a first choice, I like all my choices tbh. I'll just have to see who gives me an offer, and I'll decide from there. I concluded that there was more good points about studying in Manchester than bad points, so I'd be happy if I received an offer off them. |
