Finished Minneapolis infill and development

There was a request for photos of finished projects in Minneapolis. I have started this thread towards that end. I am going to try to photograph every significant project from the middle of the last decade onwards. This is a work in progess. I will update it as I take more photos.

Thanks Som! Keep 'em coming.

Your pics really show how cubism has stylistically dominated the recent spate of apartment buildings in Minneapolis!

Great idea for a thread. This will really help us see what direction Minneapolis is heading. Looks like a lot of quality infill as well.

The Mill District is probably the most interesting "new" neighborhood in Minneapolis for me. It's incredible what the city has created from what used to be blocks and blocks and blocks of abandoned rail yards.

Nice updates, Som!

Great Shots! It's really amazing how much these infill projects really add to the entire area they exist. And I've really come to a point where my enthusiasm for urban development doesn't stop with high-rises and skyscrapers but also with infill projects like many of these. The Hilton Garden not so much, but the Portland Ave developments do their job of showing how infill projects work.

well the hilton garden inn was basically built in between freeway on-ramps so it's definetely an improvement over what was there before

Love the updates. What about that newer one along the riverfront down at St. Anthony Main?

I think you mean Phoenix on the River. I'm sure he'll get up that way again.

I was thinking about doing that area next week. I already have a photo of Phoenix on the River from the summer but I am not sure it is right for this thread so I want to take another.

Is the Mill District similar to what Denver did with Lodo? Just asking, I've never been to that neighborhood in Minneapolis.

I've never been to Denver but from photos I gather that Lodo is more like the Warehouse District. The Mill District was a row of mills along the riverfront with a huge railyard behind it. Once the mills closed the railyard was ripped up and the city grid was built over it (I think in the 60s). It then sat as a sea of surface parking lots with a few old buildings on the edge until development began about 10 years ago. About 80% of the neighborhood is former railyard.

LoDo is more like the Channelside District here in Tampa. Former warehouse locations now with a mixture of high-rises and mid-rises. From what I have seen of LoDo though, Denver has done a better job developing the area both with more residential units and also better diversity in the architecture.
