.
Further details . .

Acklam Hall Development

Acklam Hall is a complex of buildings, the historic core of which dates from the 17th century. It is a building of significant national importance and is the only Grade 1 Listed Building in Middlesbrough.

Ownership of the site is split between Middlesbrough College and Middlesbrough Council, the Hall itself is owned by Middlesbrough College. The Council and Middlesbrough College have been working together to identify an appropriate developer for the site. In selecting a preferred developer the overriding goal was to achieve a high quality conservation-led development that secures the restoration of the Hall and its historic surroundings.

Acklam Hall ltd has been selected as the preferred developer and following an extensive period of consultation the developer has now submitted a number of planning applications to develop the site.

These consist of :

•Conservation Area Consent and a Listed Building Consent applications to demolish a number of buildings on the site and restore any parts of the Hall which interface with the buildings to be removed. The reference numbers for these applications are M/CAC/1044/11/P and M/LBC/1045/11/P respectively
•A planning application for works to the Hall (reference number M/FP/1046/11/P)

The following elements of the application are for outline planning permission only

•The conversion of the Hall to a restaurant / function facilities and hotel
•The erection of an extension to the Hall
•The erection of a Nursing Home
•Landscape improvements / management.

The following elements of the application are for full planning permission

•The erection of 56 residential dwellings
•A doctors surgery incorporating 2 medical practices, a pharmacy and associated parking.

The plans and documents associated with each application can be viewed in the Development Control Office at the Civic Centre. To view these please contact the case officer Shelly Vickers to arrange a convenient time to do so. Shelly can be contacted on 01642 729462 or by email at shelly_vickers@middlesbrough.gov.uk

Alternatively the plans can be viewed on-line via the planning application search section of this website, just follow the link and enter the reference number of the application you wish to view and click search. If you have any issues trying to access the plans on-line please contact the case officer.

Key plans for the site will also be on display in Acklam Library for approximately 3 weeks from Tuesday 1st November 2011

I've found two potential renders for the redevelopment, both with Ettrick Developments listed at the client:

source: http://www.howarthlitchfield.co.uk/

source: www.urbanarea.co.uk

I don't know if either of them will be built, but I do like the first design. I think it compliments the landscape better, whereas the other is more imposing.

It looks like this has been approved, according to the Gazette.

56 homes and a medical centre.
