Doha 2017

Road Races Venues

Doha will provide one of the most picturesque and dramatic road race venues in the history of the IAAF World Championships. Staged along Doha's famous central waterfront promenade – The Corniche - the entire course runs beside the water, with Doha Bay on one side and Doha City Centre along the other. Doha 2017 proposes a magnificent night marathon directly following the grand Opening Ceremony of the 2017 Championships.

Training Venues

Doha 2017 will provide athletes with three dedicated training venues in addition to the competition and warm-up venues. Two venues - Qatar Sports Club and Al Sadd Sports Club - will cater exclusively for running and jumping events. One venue – Al Arabi Sports Club - will be dedicated specifically for throwing events.

All three venues are existing, well-established, multi-sports clubs with all the necessary facilities already in place. These stadiums were also event and training venues for the 2006 Asian Games and the 2011 AFC Asian Cup.

LOL, Doha has had far more than London! World Cup, Asian Games etc. For a city that size they've had more than they're share!

It is not always a matter of size but matter of a city s capabilities. Oversized cities like New York failed to host various sport events,while much smaller cities like Barcelona organized (olympics for example). A huge city is not always the obvious option. If size or history of a city was the matter,Edmonton would had never get the IAAF championship,especially after cities as Athens,Tokyo and Rome.

You're right. The size of the city isn't always the most important criterion - though there were serious doubts as to whether Doha could muster up respectable attendances.

But the point is, as RobH has pointed out, that Doha has recently been awarded at least as much as London in terms of major international sporting events (including, to all intents and purposes, an entire FIFA World Cup - the first time that a single city has been given that honour). And that totally invalidates your reason for saying that London didn't deserve to be awarded the 2017 World Championships.

So the Olympic stadium will be reduced from 80,000 to 60,000 for the World championships. I wonder how they will achieve that?
