The remains of the old Chronicle Herald Building:

Hard to see.. but to the left of Park Victoria is the construction site for The Trillium.. the new luxury condos on South Park St. Very impressive looking design, should be finished June 2011. Go to TheTrillium.ca to get a look at what the building will look like.

Thanks for the picture update! I believe the site on Hollis street is the location of a new 10 story commercial/residential development. Unfortunately I have no pictures of it nor do I know what it will look like. But I heard it will have pink balconies and be reminiscent of Montreal.

Why does the city continue to approve tearing down historical buildings? Ive read in an article that there isnt much history downtown.

Stingu is right.. when you upload pics in Photobucket, or Imageshack, etc... you can choose what size the final pictures will be. I recommend no bigger than 1000 x 669 for horizontal pics, and 600 x 896 for verticals!

@Justinmacd, welcome to the group!!

Not much for being so old. I'd say we have about the same ratio of old-new buildings downtown as Toronto, but not as much as QC. The N. and S. ends have numerous historical and heritage structures.

That block's not being torn down, it's being redeveloped into a 9 storey office building and the facades are being retained:

(from http://www.hpwatersidecentre.ca/)

The part where there is no facade was mostly empty lot before this development, plus a three storey wooden building of relatively little heritage value.

Unfortunately, the renderings are down for Hollis and Morris but Google still has this thumbnail version:

The newly extended segment of the waterfront boardwalk is for this development by WMZH architects (not sure when it will proceed):

Here's one of the renderings of the Trillium (from thetrillium.ca):

Schmidtville, Halifax

I've taken pictures of almost every building in the Schmidtville neighbourhood of Downtown Halifax. It's the area south of the Spring Garden Road business district. For all of the pictures go to my blog: http://www.urbanhalifaxblog.blogspot.com/

Here are a couple of pictures from there:

Instead of encouraging people to venture to a site that is already active and abandon this one (thus making the problem worse), perhaps we could do more to encourage increased activity right here.

agreed 100%. Also, we don't need a "member" only post here just to tell people to go and try somewhere else. To me its advertising for the other site and this "member" should be either banned or deleted!
