Singapore tycoon, Johor royalty in S$2b deal
Published: 2011/11/11 http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_New...32545/Article/ SINGAPORE A Singaporean billionaire yesterday signed a deal with a Malaysian royal family to develop prime waterfront property in Johor, Malaysia, a company statement said. Peter Lim, who made his fortune in stockbroking and commodities, teamed up with the Johor royal family to develop a medical hub and marina city comprising hotels, apartments and entertainment facilities in the state. The project will be developed on a 10ha site at a cost of S$2 billion (RM4.9 billion) over 10 years, said Koh Kim Huat, director of Best Blend Sdn Bhd, the joint-venture company behind the development. Khazanah, Temasek said to seek S$5b loans
Published: 2011/11/16 http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_New...cle/index_html Khazanah Nasional Bhd and Temasek Holdings Pte, the state-owned investment companies of Malaysia and Singapore, hired banks to arrange S$5 billion of property development loans, according to two people familiar with the matter. Eight lenders will contribute to the five-year bullet facility, which will pay a so-called all-in fee of 100 basis points over benchmark rates, one of the people said, asking not to be identified as details are private. The eight banks are DBS Group Holdings Ltd, HSBC Holdings plc, Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp, Malayan Banking Bhd, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd, Standard Chartered plc, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp and United Overseas Bank Ltd, the person said. Khazanah and Temasek said in June they would jointly develop US$9.8 billion of projects in southern Malaysia and downtown Singapore. Some S$11 billion of Singapore developments will include hotels, apartments, offices and shops in 501,020 square metres of space in two main areas of the city’s downtown, the two companies said in a June 27 statement. The RM3 billion of projects in Malaysia’s Iskandar region will have homes, retail space and “wellness-related offerings,” the companies said. Banks are currently working through internal credit approvals and the loan is expected to be signed in the new year, the person said. -- Bloomberg

Your pic brought me back some stressful memory as I saw that layer cake buildings at the back there, I worked in that buildings before, it was a very stressful job back then. The layer cake buildings are just at the opposite of the land which Malaysia and Singapore will jointly develop (at Rochor road).

Malaysia, Singapore urged to tap each other’s advantages
By EUGENE MAHALINGAM Monday November 28, 2011 http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story...7&sec=business Lim: ‘Iskandar and Singapore could well have the potential to develop into a seamless economic space some day.’ SINGAPORE: Singapore's Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang has urged Malaysia and Singapore to capitalise on each other's comparative advantages to brave the global economic volatilities ahead. “In the uncertain global economic climate, Malaysia and Singapore should reinforce each other's growth by finding collaborative niches in the manufacturing and services value chains. This will help us ride out the economic volatility that lies ahead,” he said at the Malaysia-Singapore Business Forum 2011 last week. Lim also encouraged businesses in Singapore to leverage their expertise with Malaysian companies by integrating business or manufacturing processes across the borders. “The close proximity between Iskandar Malaysia and Singapore means that managing such integrated processes can be faster and easier. This is a valuable proposition that should be exploited. “Looking ahead into the future, with the right match of industries and connectivity for goods and people further enhanced, Iskandar and Singapore could well have the potential to develop into a seamless economic space some day,” he said. Singapore is Malaysia's largest trading partner. From January to October 2011, bilateral trade grew 3.8% to US$92.6bil (RM296bil) from the same corresponding period. According to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida), Singapore was the fifth largest investor in Malaysia for the first eight months of 2011, contributing RM1.9bil worth of manufacturing-related investments. Mustapa: ‘At the end of the day, it’s about who is the most productive and it’s the best man that wins.’ Separately, Lim said both Malaysia and Singapore should also look to Asean to generate closer economic integration for more business opportunities. “Collectively, Asean constitutes a market of over 550 million people, with gross domestic product (GDP) totalling US$1.1 trillion (RM3.5 trillion). Asean's GDP per capita has also grown steadily, rising from under US$1,500 (RM4,800) per capita in 2004 to over US$2,500 (RM8,000) in 2009. “As Asean countries progress through different stages of economic development, this positive trend indicates sizeable potential in the various market segments,” he said. Lim also pointed out that deliberate efforts had been made to foster economic integration in the Asean region. The conclusion of the Asean Trade in Goods Agreement (Atiga) and Asean Comprehensive Investment Agreement (Acia) constitutes important efforts of earlier years. “The ongoing work towards an Asean Economic Community in 2015 will play an important role in further catalysing Asean's development towards a single market and production base, competitive economic region, equitable economic development and integration into the global economy,” he said. Meanwhile, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said companies from both Malaysia and Singapore needed to find a balance on where they could compete with and complement each other. “We have to be realistic. In some areas we complement, other areas we compete. At the end of the day, it's about who is the most productive and it's the best man that wins.” The Malaysia-Singapore Business Forum 2011 was hosted by Mida, Malaysia External Trade Development Corp and the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, and was co-organised by the Singapore Business Federation and International Enterprise Singapore. Themed “Enhancing Strategic Partnership,” the event was attended by over 700 participants and was aimed at providing attendees with insight on the latest initiatives to foster strategic relationships as well as an outlook on the economy and investment opportunities. It featured a panel discussion with speakers including Mustapa, Lim, Singapore Business Foundation chairman Tony Chew, Singapore Aerospace Manufacturing Pte Ltd senior vice-president for corporate development Oh Chong Ho, YCH Group Ltd chief executive officer Robert Yap and Malaysia-Singapore Business Council representative Datuk Ghazali Yusoff. The panel discussion was moderated by former CNN and CNBC personality Lorraine Hahn.

Malaysia, Singapore in cross-border banking pact
Published: 2011/11/29 http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_New...cle/index_html Kuala Lumpur: The central banks of Malaysia and Singapore have inked a memorandum of understanding to establish a cross-border collateral arrangement aimed at enhancing liquidity facilities to banks in both countries. Under the agreement, banks operating in Singapore may obtain Singapore dollar (S$) liquidity from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) by pledging ringgit or ringgit-denominated sovereign and central bank securities with MAS. Similarly, banks operating in Malaysia may obtain ringgit liquidity from Bank Negara Malaysia by pledging S$ or S$-denominated sovereign and central bank securities. “This new initiative will facilitate more effective liquidity management by our financial institutions,” Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz said in a joint press release yesterday. MAS’ managing director Ravi Menon added that it would help build confidence among banks in both countries.
