yea, but instead they (europe im saying, america is a bit more ugly like iran) have such amazing cities that a small thing like this wont ruin it

eg compare a city like gorgan to a city its size in europe, like strasbourg in france which has roughly the same pop, then u see the difference

Unfortunately, certain people here (I don't need to mention names) have extreme inferiority complex issues. They need to give up their Iranian identity and simply adopt their host country's culture "full time."

Thinking that this building is ugly is different from saying that Iranians are out of touch with "reality." As if the Western reality is Iran's reality!!! This building is not bad for a city of 200k people in a developing country.

There is a building in the rural heartland of england like the one in Gorgan, it has no relation to its local environment and built with the same intentions as the one in Gorgan, the restaurant has since closed due to fire regulations.

If Iranian architects were to design something that was Iranian in design, then there would be no problem. It's when they design hideous Western-inspired monstrosities, then there is a problem. In fact, why design for a developing country when we should aim for designing for a developed country?

No one is giving up their identity and no one has an inferiority complex. I'm all for original Iranian design, but there is a lot we can learn from outside of Iran - And I don't mean only the West. Look at Japan, South Korea and even China who have maintained their own cultures and at the same time borrowed from the outside world to create something unique and modern.

That has always been my argument: Iran should be open to the outside world and its ideas. We shouldn't be inward looking like we have been for the past odd years.
