London | Fulham FC

Fulham FC staying put

Fulham Football Club has announced plans to redevelop Craven Cottage, quelling any speculation they might seek to ground-share with QPR or Chelsea.

The club will consult on plans to expand the current Craven Cottage ground to 30,000 capacity from the present 25,700 by expanding the Riverside stand.

A statement on the club's website says they are "at the early stages of the planning process". The Club will be displaying ideas and plans in an open exhibition at The Café at the Cottage, in the Johnny Haynes Stand, Stevenage Road, from Wednesday 19th October until Saturday 22nd October.

The club have presented the council with a comprehensive enviromental scoping report complete with initial drawings. They hope to submit a formal planning application in early 2012 when more detailed plans are available to view.
The new stand looks enormous,It will add over 4000 seats taking the capacity to 30k, it is twice the height of the existing riverside stand, has two levels of executive box/lounges and has provisions for 6 apartments. The top tier will overhang the river while there is a pontoon/pier type walkway. It looks pretty impressive, although the ground may lose a little of the uniform feel it has at the moment.
It does seem too big for the space available but im not an architect.

Fulham Forever

Thank you for participating in the consultation on our plans to expand Craven Cottage. We had a wonderful response, with over 3,000 people submitting comments.

- 94% said they supported our ambition to stay at Craven Cottage and expand to 30,000 capacity.

- 75% agreed that the Riverside Stand was the most appropriate to develop.

- 72% said that a new riverside walk would be the major benefit delivered by the proposed development.

We now have more detailed plans for you to see and we invite you to attend our consultation forum, which takes place at the following times:

- Thursday 8 December 2011 (10 am – 12 noon; 4 pm – 8 pm)

- Friday 9 December 2011 (10 am – 12 noon; 4 pm – 8 pm)

- Saturday 10 December 2011 (10 am – 3 pm)

These will take place at The Café at the Cottage, in the Johnny Haynes Stand, Stevenage Road.

More information about the plans, along with an online feedback form, will also be available at http://www.fulhamfcstadium.com from 8th December.

Kind regards,

Fulham Football Club

Wow looks absolutely fantastic, like the little brother of the West Stand down the road at the Bridge. Would be a superb addition to an already fantastic ground that is full of soul.

Kinell.

That'll be mad with the 2 temporary stands at the ends and the proper oldie over the other side.

There was a plan back in 2007 to refurbish the Riverside Stand and give it a mainly glass facade, but thankfully that didn't happen:

Included in the 2007 redevelopment plans was the removal of the hospitality boxes in both the Riverside Stand and Putney End Stand. These areas were to be replaced with extra seating, which would've taken the capacity to 30,000, oh, and the Hammersmith End Stand was also going to be upgraded. I wonder if one day they'll still go ahead with the Putney End Stand and Hammersmith End Stand redevelopment? Here you can see an aerial view of the proposed 2007 redevelopment:

Before

After

One last thing, here's the design that was proposed back in 2002 (so glad this didn't become a reality):

Soooo... Getting back on topic, this is basically going to be an extension to the existing Riverside stand then? Nice design.

The walkway is reminiscent of the Millennium Stadium walkway

It is, and they'll build the new part around the existing stand, so the capacity won't be reduced during construction:
