He noted that one of the key infrastructure projects under the program was the construction of the Laguindingan airport, which was expected to support agricultural development in Mindanao.

“It will serve as the main airport of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities in northern Mindanao, and a counterpart of the Davao International Airport in Southern Mindanao,” he said.

The Laguindingan airport is expected to help boost Mindanao’s potential as a national food basket, as well as a producer of the country’s major agricultural exports such as banana and coconut.

THE Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC)

has included the soon to be completed Laguindingan International Airport as among the projects that are aligned with the European Commission’s program with P500-billion capital expenditure in the next five years.

“The European Commission has several projects on health, agriculture, environment, forestry, and support for the peace process in Mindanao,” he told members of the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines and Joint Foreign Chambers.
The DOTC leads the government’s charge to pump-prime the economy with major projects to modernize the transport system in a bid to raise rural incomes, literacy levels and improve health conditions in the countryside.

Roxas added that the government is now mapping a port program for Mindanao that will result in lower shipping rates from Mindanao to where the market is in Manila.

It's a bit worrisome to depend on a broke Euro union to fund the airport. This tells me that the money is not readily available, hence the delay of opening from 2012 to 2013.

The fund is for the navigational facilities. The government actually has money but does not want to spend it in Mindanao...

The Ayala group has bagged the P2-billion Daang Hari-South Luzon Expressway link road, the very first infrastructure-building project auctioned by the Aquino administration under the much-awaited public-private partnership (PPP) framework.
After this project, conglomerate Ayala Corp. will study whether to bid for two other toll road projects in the government’s PPP pipeline—the NAIA Expressway and the North Luzon Expressway-South Luzon Expressway connector projects, according to Ayala Corp. managing director Eric Francia.
Through property unit Ayala Land Inc., the conglomerate is also interested in the privatization of the operation and maintenance of the Laguindingan Airport in Cagayan de Oro, Francia said.
