#Turfhall Softball Stadium Upgrade - Cape Town
The Turfhall Stadium upgrade forms part of the bid to have the 2011 Junior Softball World Cup hosted at this venue.
The existing property was one of the components of South Africa’s Olympic Bid. The existing facility is to receive a maintenance programme for the existing buildings. The following new buildings are to be added to the venue: 2 new fields; a new protective batting shed and a new commentary tower. ![]() ![]()

Softball SA needs R15m for tourney
20-Apr-2011 | Ramatsiyi Moholoa | 3 comments SOFTBALL South Africa is in dire need of R15million to host a successful IX ISF Junior Women's World Championships in Cape Town in December. "We are hoping a Good Samaritan will come to our rescue to enable us host a world-class tournament," said SSA president Guillo "S'dumo" Marapyane yesterday. "The Women's World Championships is a big tournament where all the future stars will be in action and we are delighted to host it. "It is the second global tournament we are hosting in South Africa after staging the 2003 Men's World Championships in East London. "The support we are getting from Sports and Recreation SA as well as the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee in terms of logistics has been wonderful. "We need about R15million to host the tournament and that is why we appeal to the corporate world to come on board and help us. "There are many black executives who are in charge of various major companies but they are turning their backs on softball."

Road to Softball Champs gets underway
Posted on 12 August 2011. SEANNE LESS The Turhall Park Softball Complex in Athlone played host to a gala dinner on Monday to launch the Junior World Woman’s Softball Championship to be held later this year. In attendance were delegates from various national softball federations including the USA, Germany and Japan as well as representatives from Western Province Softball Federation and City of Cape Town officials. International Softball Federation Secretary General Ms. Low Beng Choo was all smiles as she took the stage to address guests at large, welcoming and thanking all who were in attendance. Her words conveyed great confidence in Local Organizing Committee project manager Noore Nacerodien and the rest of his team in preparation for the tournament to take place from 6-17 December 2011. Sonke the mascot“By December we would of spent R16million on upgrading infrastructure at Turfhall which in itself is a great achievement for local softball”, says Nacerodien. He went on further to say that hosting this event would be killing two birds with one stone, “We get to showcase our country and also our excellent talent and proud softball heritage” he said. The 2400 seater Turhall Softball Stadium will undergo another site visit by the City of Cape Town, Softball South Africa and the ISF at the end of the month as upgrades to the venue take place including the construction of a second field as well as a massive grandstand upgrade. Official mascot for the tournament, Sonke, was also present on the night greeting guests as they arrived with a welcoming handshake. Sonke is a Xhosa word, which means “together” and is a fitting name seeing as the theme for the tournament is “Together as one”. The LOC hopes for Sonke to spread the Spirit of Ubuntu throughout the build up and duration of the tournament. |

MAn! - its looking brilliant ! - great facility. I have a mate in the UK with me who plays baseball - used to play in Gauteng etc, and now in the UK - where the facilities dont exist AT ALL outside of the American base they play on sometimes. Good to know we have this asset, as Softball and Baseball have to ability to be / are quite big in the Cape Flats areas no? - and a good legacy for future games bids too !
