This would be interesting to see if it happens. A 747 freighter will fly into CGY with relief supplies. I wonder if the runway at Laguindingan would be better? In a emergency like this, that would be the way to go. Go in and out during the daytime. The new airport would know that the first plane to land there was a jumbo.

we all know that CGY's runway can accommodate the 747. my question is, can the taxiway and ramps handle such a big plane? paano na kung may darating na commercial flights at nandun sa ramp ang 747 ng TNT?

I don't think it can. Siguro kung sa Laguindingan pwede pa, pero kung sa Laguindingan, the length of the runway would be questioned since it's only 2km long.

![]() ![]() Mercy Flight to Cagayan de Oro Merry Christmas to Everyone!! -- AirAsia mercy flight to Cagayan de Oro. We carried 8.5 tons of fortified biscuits for UN World Food Programme for those hit by the storm in areas of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City. Our Airbus A320 was packed with goodies and left for CDO this morning December 24. Mukhang sa NAIA nagland ang plane ng TNT.

![]() I thought Lumbia Airport has a longer runway compared to the newer one in Laguindingan. as far as I can remember someone posted in Airlines and Airports thread that Lumbia Airport actually had a B747 visit by PAL before. |

That was long ago. Maybe even before PAL started to deploy 747s to GenSan. Is CGY the first to accomodate 747 in Mindanao? Can somebody confirm?

The Lumbia runway is longer but Laguindingan has two advantages, the straight approach, and the capability to lengthen the runway easily. |

Yup. Lumbia's runway is aproximately 2400 meters, as compared to Laguindingan's 2100 meters.

![]() what do you mean with straight approach? I think Lumbia does have a precise straight approach on rnwy 19 though aircrafts has to do the left base for rnwy 01. i think it would also be almost the same on the future LADP on both ends of it's runway. |

I know what you mean. In all my travels there we have always landed from the Pueblo end, thus the complicated approach. One time we did land from the other end and I know that is straight but the aircraft does not stray far from the runway but rather makes a hard 180 degree turn and lands. Laguindingan has a clear approach form either direction with no obstacles. |

GenSan Airport was the first airport in mindanao to accomodate a Boeing 747. Boeing 747-200 pa yun ng PAL. That was in 2000 pa.

Cebu Pacific mounts additional Cebu flights
MANILA, Philippines - Budget carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) has mounted additional flights to and from Cebu, in time for the arrival of its brand-new Airbus A320 aircraft from the Airbus facility in Toulouse, France. On Feb. 8, 2012, CEB will add flights from Cebu to the following destinations: Manila (11 weekly flights), Boracay (four weekly flights), Dipolog (three weekly flights), Legazpi (four weekly flights), Pagadian (two weekly flights), and Siargao (one weekly flight). It will also increase seat capacity from Cebu to Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo and Gen. Santos on the same dates. These routes will now utilize Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft. CEB will also introduce thrice-weekly Cebu-Kalibo flights starting Feb. 24 and add four times weekly Iloilo-Cagayan de Oro-Iloilo flights starting Feb. 8.
