And that is one of the reason most Durban residents avoid those beaches for the period between xmas and new years....toooooooo many ppl....

where you get the notion that these people are not durban based ....if most are not there...as you have pontificated.....most of those in the shots are likely day trippers to the beach from the durban area. Unlikely so many people would en masse drive in from Jhb or long distance for a day on the beach.

I get the notion from ALL the buses in and around the beach front area.... But since you live in your little walled compound in Mt Edgecombe or out of the country, you wouldn't actually know what its like on the streets would you?

ahh.....so the notion extends to your contentions that vetche`s doesnt need development as the beaches mostly cater for highly infrequent day trippers then......he enquires lock stock and barrel

where i live has a fence around it ..correct...got issues with fences ??...good for keeping the property away from unwanted rodents etc like wild rabbit/hare, guinea foul, etc.....

whilst there are many more users of the beachfront, i was one who used it on xmas day, having ridden from the stadia complex to Vetche`s and back, it was a pleasure if not fun dodging the throng of durban people using the same space. Umhlanga beachfront prohibits bicycles, hence one swims there and drinks there.

Awesome pics from Durban Sky Grand Prix 2014, seems like it was a massively successful event and brought mega crowds to Durbans Beachfront.

All pics from Ocean Driven Media

I finally had a chance to download my pics from the recent Land-Sea-Air Festival on Durban’s beachfront. What an outstanding event!! It has the potential to become one of Durban’s signature events (if not SA's). From the surprise SAA jet flyover with the Silver Falcons, to the Grippen fighter jet flyovers (and release of flares), to mind-boggling competitive aerial stunts (including by the current world champion) right above gob-smacked crowds, this event was truly amazing. Over 150,000 people flocked to the event, young and old. Every eatery and lawn was packed, and there were amzaing views from every part of the beachfront, from Blue Lagoon to Ushaka (and even the Berea)! If anyone had any doubt whether the beachfront upgrades were worth it, this is the indisputable proof. The rehabilitated dunes looked fantastic. The refurbished and widened piers looked fantastic. The historic sunked gardens looked amazing. Every mode of transport was on display, from ricksha to rollerblade, to cycle. The Circus Circus beach cafe was amazing. Even the new seawall looked great! When the newly leased eateries are in full operation next year, the eatery options with spectacular, frontline views will be even better. It was good to see the pavement cafes (such Cafe Jiran), new cafes in hotels such as Maharani and Elangeni, and even cafes in the beachfront lifesavers clubs across the beachfront doing a roaring trade. As usual, Durban’s unrivalled ethnic diversity was on full display, with burka wearers strolling side by side with bikini wearers, again proving why the city is the epitome of the Rainbow Nation, and Africa's most diverse city.

Enjoy the spectacle!

Awesome shots capturing the diversity and colour of the city.

I hope some of those shirts remain firmly off when I am in town in May!
