Al Qudra to develop Abraaj Sana'a in Yemen

Al Qudra to develop Abraaj Sana'a in Yemen: Al Qudra International, the international investment arm of UAE-based Al Qudra Holding, has signed an agreement with the General Investment Authority in Yemen to develop ‘Abraaj Sana’a’ real estate project in Sana’a. Abraaj Sana’a consists of residential and commercial towers, villas, hotel, shopping centre, diplomatic club and a variety of services and innovative facilities with the highest standards of security and safety.

HE Eng. Salah Salem Bin Omeir Al Shamsi, Chairman and Managing Director, Al Qudra Holding, said, “Our decision to develop Abraaj Sana’a project is inline with the determination to develop unique and luxurious projects throughout the world. We chose to invest in Yemen as Al Qudra strongly believes that Yemen’s market has the right and distinctive mix of factors of success within the region”.

According to the agreement, Al Qudra International will commence the processing of the project’s infrastructure such as laying roads, electricity connections, sanitation and other services in association with General Investment Authority. Abraaj Sana’a real estate development includes landscaped green areas, swimming pools, tennis courts, parking spaces and other advanced facilities.

Yemen and Kuwait ink $4.5bn tourism deals

Yemen's state investment agency and two Kuwaiti companies are to sign to sign license agreements in the tourism sector worth $4.5 billion, state news agency Saba said on Sunday.

Kuwait's Ewa'a and Investor would establish tourism cities and resorts on the Red Sea as part of the agreement with the General Authority for Invesment (GAI), Saba said, quoting state-run almotamar.net.

The agreements are due to be signed on Monday at the Movenpick Hotel in the capital Sana'a.

Kuwait's Ambassador to Yemen, Salim Gasab, will attend the signing ceremony with several Yemeni ministers.

Bin Laden's $20bn bridge venture




A member of the Bin Laden family is looking to build a 17-mile bridge linking Yemen and Djibouti on the Horn of Africa in a bid to connect the Middle East and Africa.

According to a British newspaper report today, the bridge - to be known as 'the bridge of the century' - would be the longest in the world, costing £10 billion ($20.6 billion) and boasting highway and rail links.

Sheikh Tarek Mohammed Bin Laden, has outlined his plans to both Yemen and Djibouti, winning support and offers of land from both presidents.

The bridge proposes to link Asia and Africa and would boost trade from both sides of the Red Sea.

Sheikh Tarek, as part of the Saudi-based construction conglomerate Bid Laden Group, is also looking to build a 'luxury city' on the Djibouti coast which would create 100,000 jobs and stretch over 375 square miles, the Sunday Times said.

The proposed bridge - which would take nine years to construct - would have a centre span of 3.1 miles and would allow up to 100,000 cars and 50,000 train passengers to cross per day.

Ethiopia's Al-amoudi building $150 million hotel in Yemen

Ethiopia born Saudi business tycoon, Sheik Mohammed Al-amoudi is also the chairman of Golden Leaves Hotels and Resorts Ltd, late last month laid a foundation stone for a hotel project in the Aser area of Sana’a, Yemen, estimated to cost 150 million USD.

Sources disclosed to Capital that the hotel that will be established on 150,000 square meters is expected to be completed within three years.

According to information obtained, Sheik Al-amoudi decided to build a hotel after a discussion he held with Yemeni officials at a Conference for Investment Opportunities, held in Sana’a in April 2007.

Al Amoudi owns a wide ranging business portfolio, notable amongst which are oil refineries in Sweden and Morocco, gold mines, agriculture projects and industrial projects. He is also the founder and chairman of MIDROC Ethiopia Group, which owns diversified business sectors in Ethiopia. His hotels portfolio includes properties in Ethiopia, Uganda, Djibouti, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Europe and Yemen where two new hotels are under construction.

In 2008, Forbes magazine ranked Mohammed Al Amoudi as the 77th richest person in the world with a net worth of $9 billion. Mohammed Al Amoudi is Ethiopia’s richest person and the richest black person in the world. In 2006 his net worth was estimated as between $2.5 and $6.9 billion, causing Arabian Business to rank him as the world’s 8th richest Arab, and Forbes to rank him as the world’s 77th richest person. Al Amoudi’s father is Yemeni and his mother is Ethiopian. He immigrated to Saudi Arabia in 1965 and became a Saudi citizen. Depending on disparate ethnic categorizations, and Al Amoudi’s mixed Ethiopian and Yemeni parentage, he is one of the richest Arabs.

Al Amoudi made his fortune in construction and real estate before branching out to buy oil refineries in Sweden and Morocco. He is said to be the largest foreign investor in both Sweden and Ethiopia.

IDB loans Yemen $37 million

JEDDAH, July 01 (Saba) - The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has granted Yemen three loans over $37.5 million to finance three development projects in Sana’a and Baidha’a governorates.

The loan agreements were allocated to contribute to funding a fishery wealth development projects, Sana’a water supply and rural development in Baidha’a governorate.

The agreements were signed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdul-Karim al-Arhabi and IDB Group head Ahmed Mohammed Ali.

After the singing ceremonies, the IDB official affirmed the Bank’s keenness on keeping on supporting the development projects in Yemen, praising the cooperation level between IDB and Yemen.
