I think most European would agree that the Visegrad states are Central European. However that cannot be said for non europeans, they still refer to those states as Eastern Europe but they just don't know any better.

Huge thanks to ivdenis (railphotos) Side note, top priority for Ukraine's railroads at the moment is connecting major cities with fast trains (up to 180 km/s). Already about 20 such routes exist. New routes emerging almost every month.

Infrastructure is quite general term, therefore I´ m gonna concentrate on transport infrastructure: highways/roads, railways, airports and partially waterways in Slovakia.
For the highways has been quite enough disussed in the previous thread, therefore I´ ll just put the map of the current highways/expressways in operation and construction: http://www.highways.sk/highways/img/highways_map.gif, or on the site of National Highway Agency: http://www.ndsas.sk/index/index.php?ids=3 Video about D1 transslovakian highway is here In next weeks is planned to start an international render for the construction the longest highway tunnel in Slovakia /and I think it will be the longest in Eastern Europe/, tunnel Višňové, with the length of 7,5 km. Exploration tube has been drilled during 1998-2002. This tunnel, together with 16 km Dubná Skala - Turany sectionsection, which forms Zilina and Martin bypass is among Slovakia most congested traffic sections. Roads are in my personal view quite O.K., anyway there is a need for more cities and town bypasses. This construction is going on as well /Trnava, section Zilina-Prievidza, Trencin, etc./. Railway infrastructure On May 23 plan to operate HST between Prague and Bratislava on the whole modernised corridor. The initial plan was to put it into the operation in December last year, let´s hope this is the final date. Furthermore, the plan for modernising the Bratislava-Kosice railway route up to 160 km/h speed is fully in track, first ca. 15 % finished, another ca. 10 % in construction, in 2010 ca. 200 km would be finished (up to Zilina) and by 2020 the whole Bratislava-Kosice section will be upgraded up to 160 km/h speed. Urban rail networks development is concerning Bratislava, Zilina and Kosice. From eight most important SVK cities all of them have modernised stations, except for Presov and Poprad. Modernisation of Presov station starts this month with planned finish in September 2007 and the start of modernisation of Poprad station is going to start in the Summer. Airport infrastructure As also mentioned in Bratislava development thread, following up the privatisation of Bratislava M.R. Štefánik airport, new investor consortium TwoOne have to construct third runway and new terminal. Poprad terminal is under modernisation, Kosice has been finished ca. 16 months ago. Modernisation and prolongation of Zilina runway is on the way. Also, Slovakia based Sky Europe has a contract for a purchase of 32 Boeings. Waterways infrastructure Cooperation with Ćzech republic for the navigation of Morava river, better navigation of Váh /Slovakia longest river/ is also under way.
