Had a sneaky peak from Central Road today. Lots of workmen on site fitting the shop fronts and interiors. Not long now?!?!?

Seems to be relatively complete on the Briggate frontage too. Open around Easter?

I've got my fingers crossed that we might see some independents opening up here, the kind that disappeared with the demise of the Waterloo Gallery and Granary Wharf.

A green neon strip has been installed vertically above the back entrance of the arcade. Also got a sneak inside where people were working, and seemed to be coming on relatively well... or at least as well as a project that was first advertised as completing Spring 2011 could expected to be.

Not particularly keen on it... Just looks a bit random and tacky.

'Central Arcade' lettering has gone up above the Briggate entrance. It's still depressing to turn from Boar Lane onto Briggate to see this dated range of buildings though, especially when Duncan Street is so ornate.

The interior is complete.
Walked past it earlier today and the bordering on Briggate advertising the arcade has been taken down to reveal floor to ceiling glass units running through the arcade. The entrance has the same theme with high quality lighting making the development an excellent edition to Leeds retail. Unfortunately the architecture above the entrance remains sub-par and doesn't at all reflect the quality inside the arcade. There were builders on site however I'd expect it to be opened within the coming days -unless there are shutters where the entrance is- as the barrier is a temporary feature that you usually associate with roadworks. |

It will be useful to have this open again as a little cut through, particularly from next year with the reinstatement of the axis through Trinity.
I wouldn't worry too much if no-one else has signed up yet. It should have relatively decent footfall, and the size of the units will allow independents to have a good position off Briggate.

A quick Google shows Greggs are recruiting at the 'Leeds Briggate' branch which suggests an opening likely some-time in May. Perhaps one of the Cafe format stores like the one in the bus station.

It looks great inside, really bright and inviting, but the exterior is pants.

Maybe they can stick some advertising screen on or something if it's that bad.
I saw the interior through some hoardings a week ago or so and it looked good though. And just to remind us...

I remember it looking that terrible!!! i am surprised anyone ever went in the four cousins cafe. I am glad something has been done "been a long time coming" it was an eyesore for many years and dark and depressing.

Maybe somebody can dig out a photo prior to it being an arcade.
