BASRA | Basra Modern City | 1384 units | U/C

hi everybody,

Been reading about this for a while now, this is a mega project in collaboration between BIC (Basra Investment Commission) and the Ministry of Works & Construction as well as the contractor WADI SAWA INTERNATIONAL. (see this http://wadi-sawa.com/) which is a consortium of Iraqi and American consultancy and engineering firms.

The foundation stone is below:

Some renders from the official website (newbasra.com):

Some news and updates:

1- Basra Local Governmental concuil discusses New Basra City as part of a meeting. (http://investbasrah.com/index.php?op...t-news&lang=ar) [Arabic]

2- Basra Governor discusses the funding of the roject as well as installments with the housing bank. (http://basvoice.com/ar/news.php?action=view&id=4103) [Arabic]

3- Alsabah (official newspaper): New Basra City is approved.

I personally think, WADI SAWA is not professional enough to handle such a project...

Honestly I don't see the point of this project...? Is it a whole city with just houses? We're so short on housing right now we need lots of projects but we need low-cost housing, not houses with pools.. Not sure why but Im not convinced by this.

I'm sure Basra's gdp per capital is higher than anywhere else in Iraq (maybe except for some places in the Kurdish regions) and by the time it's done, more people would be able to afford it. Basra is not poor.

Honglu, the guy who updates us on Baghdad mall, said there is a US. company working on a housing project in Basra, and since there is no other AMERICAN company awarded any housing projects other than this, so it should be this. So this is still alive.

This is stupid, they need to IMPROVE the current buildings and provide cheap affordable homing, thats why they should BUILD UP, By providing long residential flats.

there are actually several housing project threads in Basra.

we need to know which one's which.

American WSI 2500 housing units / $220M... part of a 12k housing unit total. which sounds suspiciously like this one! and should be merged!

Al Kazieaza 6200 housing units (proposed) romanian company

Basra 3000 housing Units awarded to Nokan for $250M
