I luv NY and its architecture skyscrapers but as I'm skimming through the forum on here, Chicago skyline is very impressive, organized and clean looking. Looking from the lake, you have the Sears, *(idk nothing bout Willis) dominating from the far left, then you have the Trump Tower dominating right in the middle and then the Aon and Hancock dominating the far left. Thats how you placed buildings in a already crowed skyline. I also luv that Chicago builds with height, the atmosphere look crystal clear. Even their streets look clean. I think the whole of Chicago skyline is the same size of Midtown. Now thats how you know NY skyline is gigantic. Now I never been to Chicago to actually see it, but judging from pictures its looks promising. However, they are overshadowed by us, NY. Which I can kind of see why.*
Chi may have the height but they don't have that vibrant electrifying sparkle. I always ask myself, for a city of a population that is less than even L.A's why do they built higher. You built higher to occupied more space, but do Chicago just built just to try to compete with NY, idk!! Maybe thats why its always the 2nd city after NY and the U.S, but worldwide, I think Chicago lost its identification, as people probably doesn't even know it exists. No shade!* Now NY's skyline is gigantic. I don't think no other city in the world can compete with us, (Dubi, No they building like a 3 yrd old playing with legos) However the skyline is so cluster that its hard to find what is what and take pictures. Chicago skyline is pretty much a front facing camera. From the lake its a snap and from the western suburbs its also a snap, but NY's its so hard to take a great snap. Downtown has a good view from east and west and the statue of liberty but midtown is a other story. The only way to get a good looking angle of midtown is from a skyscraper from downtown. There for you have to be looking at midtown from the sky and from the south. The EBS, the front door to that cluster behind it is even facing the south and north direction for a good looking view of midtown. Who wants to see midtown from the side.* Speaking about cluster, Its like the ESB *& 1WTC is the front door to that their clutter skylines. Chi-town has like, 4-5 1,000+ ft's that you can identify in their skyline, while NY have as of right now, 5 but only 2 we can identify. 1WTC and ESB and just maybe Crystal. Who would think the BOA & NYT are 1000+ footers within their zone. Again you can't cause everything is stack upon each other. That's why I said earlier, Chi- town knows how to place their supertalls by creating a skyline within a major skyline. When the whole WTC complex is finish, I hope people can identify what is what, but I pretty much know 1WTC will have the upper hand on that part.* |

Even though it's very obvious you're trying to start a city vs city, this thread isn't for that. But whatever, let me clear some stuff up for you, because you sound like a little kid convinced that everything you say is right.
Firstly, from the typical vantage point of the Chicago skyline, Willis/Sears is far left, Aon is center left, Trump is center right, and Hancock is far right. And why would Chicago have to compete with NY? Chicago is the birthplace of the skyscraper. They have nothing to prove. Chicago is a very powerful international city, on par, or slightly below LA. But compared to NYC, both Chicago and LA have a lot of catching up to do. Secondly, it doesn't matter if Dubai builds like a "3 year old playing with legos". Skyscrapers are skyscrapers and Dubai has more than NY at the moment. In addition, even if you don't count Dubai, Hong Kong has more as well. Chicago has 5 buildings over 1000ft and one at 995ft. That's currently 6 supertalls. Currently, NY has 5 completed supertalls with many more on their way. And yes, Chrysler is very noticeable. What were you trying to prove actually? One minute, you seem to be bashing Chicago, the next, you seem to be praising it. This isn't a city vs city thread. It's a New York and Chicago appreciate thread. Appreciate it. |
