Execellent idea actually but a tad tricky because of safety issue since it's close to the resorts and such where you expect people going on boat or parasailing, I'm sure there is a good way to avoid it..

Agree, It could help significantly the decongestion on the two airports.
with regards to the technical infrastructure and regulations to handle the traffic, I hope CAAP can handle those.

i hope they don't build that duck/swan! A tribal/Tropical design would make it the most unique airport in the world, IMO. Something that'll remind people of ati-atihan and the the paradise that is aklan.. (But of course, complete with modern amenities..) they should also start building a rainforest surrounding the airport!

From the latest render hired by SMC Trans Aire is something more glassy and Tropical mode and not the usual generic Terminals around with San Miguel Corp. I trust.


That Buensalido Concept by the way is from the past Owner Caticlan International Airport Corp.

I thought I read somewhere that the road would go under the runway, as in, there will be a tunnel.. I am not sure though.

There should be. That's the only way they can extend a part of the runway to the sea as far as I can remember but I forgot if it's Nabas-side or Caticlan-side. I think that one with the tunnel is shown in the early part of this thread with the plan.

The sight of tourist spotting planes while they land in MPH is most likely. Alphaland already has a project in Nabas and another "big" company planning "something grand" in the Caticlan-Nabas Boundary. More are coming in for Nabas-Malay area real soon.

building a rainforest around the airport, is like inviting bird strikes.

As for the Buensalido airport design... that's just like a proposal yeah? But since pretty much MPH is a private airport, SMC would have the last call for the design...

AFAIK, the area around Caticlan is part of the biodiverse Northwestern Panay Peninsula eco area..

That is the reason why Nabas must masterplan developments in the area. The town still looks pristine and I hope if there are resort, commercial or residential developments in the area, those should be eco-friendly and environmentally sustainable.

to be honest, i don't have any idea about it's biodiversity.. but based on Habagatcentral's aerial photo above, there's a significant area used for agriculture and other tree-less patches including the built-up area that is part of the town.. I was saying build a rainforest around the airport because in the grand scheme of things, with the "supposed" tribal/tropical architecture that they plan for the airport, landing at Caticlan would/could definitely feel like "indiana jones".. of course, not to mean being reminded of the film, but feeling a sense of uniqueness from the rest of the world!

I think something to do with the birds would be a nice motif for the airport. Esp with endemic birds to the peninsula...

Dont worry, there are technology now they can use to drive birds away from the terminals property.
