The Planning Minister has agreed to the redevelopment of Westmount Quarry in Jersey.

The former Parish Depot and disused Quarry on Westmount Road in St Helier will now be turned into homes.

Developers Dandara have been granted permission to build 196 flats, 16 sheltered apartments, a 60-bedroom nursing home and a pre-school nursery.

The plans also include ground-floor artists' studios and parking for 281 vehicles.
As part of the plans, the vehicle entrance will also be changed, improvements will be made to the access to the Jewish cemetery, and residential amenity spaces will be provided.

The developers also need to re-grade, stabilise and replant the quarry faces.

The plans were submitted to the Channel Island's planning authorities in the summer after St Helier residents voted at a parish assembly to approve the plans.

I was thinking in the movie, wow Jersey looks great and it has progressed since I was last there, only to realise that some of the shots are actually Sydney, namely Cockle Bay Wharf and Woolloomooloo Wharf!

interesting scheme. any idea how tall the tallest bit is... i count 11 floors but i may be miscounting.

The 46 apartments and 7 houses and their setting in Portelet Bay can only be described as superlative.

http://www.porteletbay.co.je/ Jersey has more and more luxury developments.

The £350 million project


MULTI million pound plans to transform St Helier’s Waterfront have been given the go-ahead.

After years of controversy surrounding previous developers Harcourt, today Jersey’s Environment Minister, Freddie Cohen, has agreed in principle to the building of a major financial district on the reclaimed land.

It would mean the sinking of the main road from the Grand Hotel to the underpass and building 14 blocks of office space, shops, flats, public gardens and a hotel.

Westmount Quarry



MAJOR changes have been made to a proposed housing development in St Helier’s Westmount Quarry.

Dandara’s scheme for 196 one and two-bed private apartments, an artist’s studio, a 60-bed nursing home and a nursery for up to 60 children was given the go ahead in 2010.

But after St Helier said they had no need for the care home or preschool at Westmount, the plans were altered.

The scale and height of the project has been reduced and the overall design has been given a greener look to match the setting of the area.

Now plans for 242 one, two and three-bed apartments, an artist’s studio, a gym and 256 parking spaces have been submitted to the Planning department.

The Esplanade Quarter will be delivered in phases, the first phase will provide 470,000 sq.ft of office accomodation and has been rebranded "Jersey International Finance Centre". The office accommodation will be delivered in six standalone buildings that will provide occupiers with natural light on all four sides.

the waterfront redevelopment is a bit of a hot potato, knowing The States they'll spending 50 billion quid redeveloping it (some of which is only 10 year old) then find they can't fill half of it, then within a few years it'll all be out of fashion again!

hopefully there will be some common sense used next time around.
