Credible naman ang puntos mo sa palagay ko, medyo plain at malungkot tignan ang LAO airport. Parang may kulang, maganda lang dahil it depicts the old prehispanic heritage/atmosphere sa Loag.

nabasa ko sa Ilocos Region Thread na magkakaroon ng redevelopment sa Laoag Airport (including terminal), planned by Arch Palafox. nakapresinta na sa Ilocos Norte Capitol.

I actually get you but I just have to use context clues for me to understand. Regarding the car showroom/inasal grill cover airport, we are proud of it since it somehow showcases our heritage food... chicken inasal, in a weird way.

Anyway, LIA Terminal is fine for me, just paint the roof of the old terminal with improving check in counters and it should be fine.

I suspect they are not getting profitable loads on this route thus they need to deploy it on another route. They just used the term "operational requirements" to make it sound like a technical issue. Maintenance checks are mandatory and they should be able to give fixed dates for the cancellation like what 5j does. Suspension until further notice means they can not guarantee if the service will continue. Things has been like this with Zest Air lately. With the surge of APX into 5js routes, the juice airline seems to be scrambling to find that niche market for themselves.

Perhaps you need to understand the merits of airport economics first. You have the right to criticize but you have to also categorized. I've been to those wonderful modern airports. If you only know how expensive the fees are to land in those, then you will realize the LCCs here won't afford it. So live with our terminals and you can enjoy the cheap promo fares!

PROVINCIAL GOV’T OFFERS FREE RIDE TO TOURISTS, OFWS


In its effort to convince more local and foreign travellers to visit Ilocos Norte, the provincial government through the initiative of Gov. Ma. Imelda R. Marcos has extended a free shuttle service for travellers arriving at the Laoag International Airport (LIA).

The free transportation from LIA to downtown Laoag was pushed after Gov. Marcos observed that many local travellers and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) arrive at the airport without means of transportation and only relying on passenger jeepneys plying the Laoag- Gabu Airport route which usually ceases to operate after 7:00 in the evening.

“The free ride actually started during the Christmas season last year, just in time when our ‘balikbayans’ came home to celebrate the season with their families. In fact, the shuttle is not only for our OFWs, it is also intended to ferry local and foreign tourists since the Department of Tourism (DoT) has projected that tourist arrivals in the province will double up this year,” Gov. Marcos said.

On a quick response to the initiative, balikbayan Azon Marcelo, posted on a social networking site that ‘the free shuttle service at the LIA has long been a dream of mine and many fellow OFWs. It benefits us when we come home to our province because we don’t need to hire private vehicles to pick us up from the airport.’

According to DoT, tourist arrivals in Region 1 for 2011 have already surpassed the figure registered in 2010 when Ilocos Norte registered the most number of arrivals followed by Pangasinan.

Last year, Ilocos Norte under the leadership of Gov. Marcos launched a grand tourism plan with the setting up of new tourist and business centers, seeking to capture major investments and pave the way to make the province a tourism hub in Northern Luzon.

“Economic indicators points out that Ilocos Norte is the leading province in terms of tourist arrivals based on statistics compiled by the Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office from tourist-oriented establishments, thus for 2012 we expect more tourists to arrive in the province and we have to be ready,” Marcos added.

At present, three airline companies are in full operation at the LIA which include Air Philippines, Cebu Pacific, and Philippine Airlines. Zest Air, on the other hand, is expected to operate by March this year.

Despite the fact that Ilocos Norte is the farthest province in Region 1 from the nation’s capital Manila, the presence of the Laoag International Airport made Manila only an hour away from Ilocos Norte, and Taiwan, Hong Kong, and southern China just few hours away.

As of press time, the shuttle service from LIA to Laoag City proper is on a regular basis, Monday thru Friday, offering free ride to local and foreign tourist as well as OFWs from the earliest airline arrival at 10:45 am up to the latest flight arrival at 9 pm.
