The Winter that Wasn't - Anoka, Minnesota

The last time I was in Anoka in the summer of 2010, it was about 100ºF and oppressively humid, so I didn’t spend as much time exploring as I would have liked. Seeing as this was the first below-freezing day in a while this winter, I figured it was the perfect time to revisit the suburban city 20 miles northwest of Minneapolis.

Winter 2011-12 has been virtually non-existent, and the complete absence of measurable snow has left most East-Central Minnesotans utterly dumbfounded for the first time in decades. What most of us are secretly thinking: this is the best winter in the history of EVER.

Nice pictures. I've read a little on the Anoka Sand Plain Aquifer for my thesis, so it's interesting to see a place in this area. Anoka looks like it has some great modern buildings, like this one:

Actually the Bank Block Building (where Main Floral is now) was built in the 1880s after a fire destroyed the town. Of course, it's since had new facades built, taken back down, and refurbished multiple times, so it hardly looks the same as it did when originally built:
