Audi India to set up assembly line at Aurangabad for Q7 & Q3 SUVs.

3 Feb, 2012, 03.16AM IST, ET Bureau

MUMBAI: German premium car major Audi India will set up a new assembly line in Maharashtra for its sports utility vehicles to take on rivals BMW and Mercedes Benz.

The new assembly line in Aurangabad will start producing Q7 and Q3 SUVs by the end of the year, ramping up Audi's capacity to 8,000 units, a senior executive said.

"Q3 will be our bread and butter and the key product which will drive our growth in 2012," said Micheal Perschke, head, Audi India. "We will bring in one game changing model every year for the next few years."

Perschke said the focus is on expanding reach and portfolio of Audi, which sold 80% more cars in India last year.

The Q3 is likely to be priced in the 25-30 lakh range. It will challenge the dominance of BMW's X1 and Mini Countryman and Mercedes' B Class. The company is also considering bringing its smaller sedan, A3, creating a new entry level for itself.

The company is likely to launch the TT model in the first quarter. This will be followed by the new A4, considered a volume puller for Audi. It has also lined up the S6 and three other models for launch this year.

Audi plans to expand its reach by entering smaller cities like Nagpur, Bhopal, Lucknow and Goa.

Ruias' Phoenix chain set for expansion in Aurangabad.

Quote:
Phoenix MarketCity, the high street chain owned by the Ruia family, which started in Mumbai ten-years ago, is expanding to new locations in India, and is growing along with Palladium- the luxury mall promoted by Phoenix MarketCity. "Palladium fits in the high-street Phoenix but it has found its own entity. We'll take it to Bangalore to start with," said Gayatri Ruia, development director, Palladium mall. "The average store in Bangalore is already a premium store and it is now ready to go a higher notch," said Ruia. Phoenix Mills' Bangalore mall started operations in November 2011 and Palladium will be housed in it.

"When we started marketing Palladium four-years ago the market was at an all time low. Today, we are seeing a lot of buying and interest from brands," said Ruia.

Phoenix Market city is expanding into new territories some of them are in partnership. The recent projects, which have become operational, are in cities such as Pune, Bangalore, and Chennai. The other new territories where it will make a debut include Lucknow, Bariely, Agra, Indore and Raipur.

According to Technopak luxury malls; DLF Emporio, UB City and Palladium are becoming popular, as they offer the niche mix of international and Indian luxury brands under one roof. Going forward the desire to experience luxury will percolate to mini metros such as Chandigarh, Surat, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Aurangabad.

Phoenix Mills would focus on its retail operations. The company had earlier announced its plan to build a Rs 350 crore 5-star hotel at their Kurla mall in partnership with Marriott Hotel. This plan has been cancelled following a slump in the hospitality business, the company official said.

Audi to expand Aurangabad unit, roll out 3 models this year

Quote:
German car maker Audi today said it will launch at least three new models in India this year, besides expanding production capacity at its plant in Aurangabad for rolling out two new products. "The company will take a decision based on feasibility of the models for India. This year we have plans to launch Audi TT later this month followed by the much awaited Audi Q3 and the sporty Audi S6," Audi India Director Michael Perschke told PTI. Worldwide, Audi has plans to introduce 18 models, including A1 Sportback and Audi A3. In India, Audi sold 5,511 cars last year, an increase of 84 per cent over the prior year. Worldwide Audi sold 1.3 million vehicles in 2011. "India is one of the fastest growing markets for Audi," he said. Commenting on the capacity expansion in India, he said: "We have plans to add a new line at our Aurangabad facility by the end of this year. There will be an additional hall built for Audi which will have capacity for at least two more products." Perchke, however, did not provide specific details and investment to be made for the proposed expansion. "When Audi set up its national sales company in India in 2007, the initial investment year marked for India was 30 million euro till 2015, out of which so far we have consumed about 70 per cent," he added. At its annual conference at Ingolstadt, Audi has announced investment of 13 billion euro between 2012 and 2016 for expanding its production capacities in Hungary, Germany and China. Audi's global revenue in 2011 stood at 44.1 billion euro, up 24.4 per cent compared to 2010 and its operating profit was 5.3 billion euro, an increase of 60 per cent over previous year.

CMIA to host meet on tier-3 cities in June

Lokmat News Service Aurangabad, March 6

The tier-1 and tier-2 cities like Mumbai and Pune are proving expensive for the investors and hence they are moving their businesses to the countries like Sri Lanka, Philippines and Bangladesh. Efforts are being made to divert these industries to the tier-3 cities like Aurangabad. As part of this initiative, the Chamber of Marathwada Industries and Agriculture (CMIA) is organising a conference on 'Tier-3 cities: Future Growth of India' in June.

Aurangabad, Nagpur, Kolhapur and Nasik are considered as the tier-3 cities while Jalgaon, Jalna and Ahmednagar are in the tier-4 category. Mumbai and Pune have witnessed saturation of industries and making investment there has become expensive. The staff salaries have increased immensely. Hence, some Information Technology (IT) companies are moving to Sri Lanka and Philippines. It is necessary that these industries are retained in India. The proposed conference would be aiming at highlighting the advantages of the tier-3 cities.

Efforts will be made to rope in prominent personalities like planning commission deputy chairman Monteksingh Ahluwalia, Union commerce minister Anand Sharma, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, industry minister Narayan Rane, Wipro chairman Azim Premji and Nandan Nilekani for the conference, said CMIA president Mukund Kulkarni.

The conference will aim at bringing strength of Aurangabad to the notice of policy makers as well as investors. Local entrepreneurs would benefit immensely after interacting with stalwarts.

Model Railway Station in Aurangabad has bagged the 'Best remodelled station' Shield.

Mohammed Akhef, Aurangabad, April 9

The phase-I model railway station in Aurangabad has bagged the 'Best remodelled station' shield award for the current year here on Monday. According to highly placed railway sources, a team from the Nanded division will be visiting South Central Railway headquarters in Secunderabad on April 12 to receive the award in a grand award ceremony.

This is for the first time in the history of Aurangabad that the railway station has bagged the prestigious award leaving all the railway stations behind in the SCR zone. The railway station has been awarded under the best remodeled category awards of efficiency shields during the ongoing 57th railway week celebration.
It is learnt that the idea to have furniture for the phase-I railway station on the lines of airport, then the building having glimpse of what all the Aurangabad has to offer for the tourists were the plus points for this station as compared to other stations in the SCR zone.

It is also learnt that the senior divisional commercial manager along with the divisional railway manager Sunil Singh Soin will receive the award on April 12."Getting an award is really a recognition to your work. As the DRM of the division, all I can say is to provide safe and punctual railway service to the commuters is more important than receiving any award, " said DRM Soin. "We are very glad to learn that our station has bagged this prestigious award. And it is more special for us as it is being awarded for the first time," said station superintendent Ashok Nikam. Commercial inspector Shankar Rao also echoed Nikam's views .
