Small towns that share names with big cities
Do these places share links with the cities that they share the same name with? How did they get the same names? Have the smaller namesakes built or done anything like the big city counterpart?
Some examples: Philadelphia, MS Dallas, GA Buffalo, WY Denver, PA Atlanta, TX Las Vegas, NM Nashville, AR Minneapolis, KS |

There's also Minneapolis, NC, though that may have actually come before Minneapolis, MN.

Cleveland, IN and Philadelphia, IN are about 15 miles apart, just east of Indianapolis.
There is also an Atlanta, IN which is about 20 miles north of Indianapolis |

Miami, FL and Miami, OK (like Miami Univeristy in Ohio) all derive from Native American Words. Miami OK and OH are from the Miami Nation Indian tribe. Miami, FL is named after the Mayaimi people who populated the Lake Okeechobee or the Tequesta word Mayaimi for big water.

Seems unlikely, considering the name Minneapolis is derived from the Sioux word mnisota, where the name of the state is also derived.

Philadelphia, IN and Cleveland, IN are fifteen or so miles east of the current Indianapolis boundaries. They are in Hancock County. They were not towns within Marion County that got swallowed up by Indianapolis when it expanded to the county borders. |

Virtually every single large European city has at least one "twin town" in the US.

Uggghhh...This city seriously needs to change its name. I'm from Panama City, Panama and finding news about Panama in general or information is so difficult because you have to parse through so much garbage about Panama City, Florida beaches, parties, news, etc, etc. I think Panama City, Panama should pay Panama City, Florida a couple million to change its name. It makes marketing difficult and makes creating a brand a bit harder in the USA when a large minority of people think "Florida" when they hear "Panama City"
