I think its quite interesting that quite a few scripts derived from kawi scattered in different places in the archipelago look more similar to each other than to kawi itself. i thought they should look less like each other.. unless people were using 2 scripts at a time

Is it right to use the Alibata script for initials? This abbreviation is used in the Cebu Normal University official seal to denote CNU. Is there a script for the letter "U"?

the symbol in the middle is the baybayin Ka


if they used sulat bisaya then look at this chart

although i'm trying to figure out the first character.. for cebu they should use the character Sa as its initials

i am more familiar with sulat tagalog, even though the 2 scripts are almost identical

nevertheless its still a success having it on tv with millions of viewers, we should be happy for it

the writings say

kaamapailana (instead of Kampilan)

baganai (bagani)

pauoda (puod)

they basically wrote it in the latin script method..but with baybayin characters

ANGONO, Rizal, Philippines — This province, named after national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal, hosted the country’s first conference and symposium on our ancient writing system the other day as part of the commemoration of the birth anniversary of another hero, Andres Bonifacio.

This came as the province successfully held the Baybayin Festival 2011, in two venues, first at the Angono-Binangonan Petroglyphs site and second, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

Pangasinan 2nd District Representative Leopoldo N. Bataoil, principal author of House Bill 4395, An Act Providing the Protection and Conservation of Baybayin and declaring Baybayin as the National Script of the Philippines also known as the National Script Act of 2011 was one of the guest speakers in the activities.

Rizal Governor Casimiro “Junjun” Ynares III; Rizal Mayors League members; Department of Education officials in the province as well as principals and officials of various public and private schools in the province joined in the 1st Philippine Baybayin Conference in Angono-Binangonan Petroglyphs, which was part of the Baybayin Festival 2011, a collaborative project of Baybayin Buhayin, Taklobo Baybayin and Teachers @ Work Journey Group International and Soul Venture Rizal.

this always happens whenever they attempt to write in baybayin in TV shows.. I remember even Probe Team's documentary on our ancestor's gold they misspelled everything in baybayin..

maybe they should be firm on how it is written according to its locality and how it should be written as to its sound U,O,I,E. In that way there would be an official reference.

GMA boasts of a UP professor for their consultant in Amaya but, the show just scratches the surface of the Visayan Culture that they supposed to feature.

they are terribly mixing-up the Central Visayan (Cebuano and Bul-anon) and the Western Visayan (Hiligaynon, Karay-a/Hamtikan and Sulodnon) culture. Greetings, phrases, names and words are mixed in one sentence.

Examples:

iloy (mother) is being pronounced as "ee-loy" instead it should be "ih-luy"

dungan (persona/soul) is being pronounced as "dooh-ngan" which means "together" or "simultaneous" instead of "duh-ngan"

by the way what local writing system contains a "VA"?

i'm not sure.. most Philippine languages doesn't use "Va"... except for languages like ivasayen, itbayaten, ibaloi, ibanag...& a few others

i don't think Amaya is very specific to any visayan region... the setting is visayan but i don't think we would find out which visayan group exactly they are portraying.

even the houses looks like Torogans of the Maranao.. & the writing script they are using is Sulat Tagalog variant of baybayin.

Alibata is cool-looking and easy to learn. It's great for tribal and exotically designed messages. I know a guy who tattoed the whole alibata alphabet on his body as a message to all Filipinos that we need to preserve our culture and identity as a people.

By the it was confirmed at our org's board meeting last night that my proposal for a Baybayin Workshop was approved for the upcoming "Pilipin@ Youth Conference" this weekend. The PYC is a weekend-long conference for the Filipino youth of high schools in Northern California. I'm really excited for this :Colgate: PYC is held annually here in the University of California, Davis.
