PH ignored in US foreign policy - US lawmakers
Quote:
WASHINGTON DC – US lawmakers told top Pentagon and State Department officials that America will not find a better friend than the Philippines, and wanted to know how they were paying that back.

California Congressman Ed Royce, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Sub-Committee, convened the first-ever hearing devoted to looking at the state of the US-Philippine alliance.

“For those of us in the house, there is no blunting the fact that there is a feeling the Philippines has been ignored in US foreign policy for the last few years," said Royce.

Well, given that we voted them out in 1990, they feel unwanted. It is now that we are threatened by China are we courting them back -- by the same people who kicked them out.

there seems to be a bigger threat in the ME now which occupies the US imagination.

Madmen running a soon-to-be nuclear armed theocracy. Chilling, to say the very least.

But then, we don't know what China would do, either. Likely to side with Iran. They need oil and through the straights, Iran controls some oil.

But I think I agree the bigger threat now is the ME esp once Israel does the pre-emptive

saw it on the news... yes, they are itching to do so. Not a matter of if, but when. And that when seems to be sooner than we expect.

Do you think the predictions for May 2012 might yet come to pass after all? Just a morbid thought.

Hopefully. But then, I hope Ron Paul won't win. he will pull out all troops even in critical areas and the US will be doomed to repeat or even do worse than in WW2 when they thought Japan wouldn't dare attack the US because "they can't fly planes"

Ron Paul is one big joke. They even compiled one long list of the Ron Paul racist jokes.

Though Romney seems to be strong, my cousin who's more into that stuff feels Romney isn't really Republican enough and his stance still seems suspect. They're more inclined to support Gingrich, but Santorum seemed to pull a big surprise strong showing yesterday...

I think we need someone who can pull off another Reagan.

The Republicans really need someone serious; else, Obama, though not great, will be the "less evil", but then I am still ambivalent on his foreign policy. I am afraid he might not stand by Israel.

Not that I am so pro-Israel but I think we, non-Middle Eastern non Muslims, need Israel as a "buffer" from the crazy Islamic theocracies in the ME. It is even scarier that the Muslim Brotherhood is using democracy to gain power.

In Egypt, under the rule of the former tyranny, Coptic Christians were tolerated more. When he was over thrown, the violence against the Copts intensified.

And the Western media is not reporting the sectarian violence against Eastern Christians.

Yea, the Brotherhood is flexing its muscle and wants control of Egypt. That coupled with events elsewhere; the continued massacre in Syria propped up by Iran. Whoa. Sadly, the noveau mentality these days in Western liberal media is to portray anything related to Christianity with contempt and be dismissive about it, whilst the exact opposite and a different standard is used re the "ideology of peace". Yes, we say ideology because the ideology is separate and distinct from the religion it is trying to hijack.

PS.. On the topic of Israel ... this might only interest believers, but we do know this "urban legend" (for lack of a better term) prevalent amongst the Bible Belt WASPs. According to ancient texts or so they say, a near annihilation of Israel would actually prompt or hasten the Second Coming of the Messiah. This time not as a Child but as a full grown adult, a Fierce Warrior astride a white horse. Scary because it heralds the end of the world, this time according to the Judaeo-Christian point of view. That is what many ultra conservative WASPs believe in.

As horrid as it may sound, but it is very IRONIC that the dictators of the ME Muslim world were more tolerant of non-Muslims as compared when they were overthrown. Before Egypt, there was the Shah of Iranian.

I wonder how many of these "Muslim countries" knew of their pre-Islamic Christian heritage -- Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt. Prior to the Muslim invasion, they were the center of Christianity and rivaled Rome. St Sofia church in Turkey used to be the largest in the Christendom.

And yes, it is sad that the Western liberal media demonized Christianity. I will send you a link to an interesting video. Too controversial to post here.

Senate seeks recall of envoy to Argentina over attack on Filipino boxer

By TJ Burgonio
Philippine Daily Inquirer
12:35 pm | Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

MANILA, Philippines—The Senate on Wednesday sought the immediate recall of the Philippines’ ambassador to Argentina and an explanation from the Argentine ambassador in Manila to explain a post-fight attack on victorious Filipino boxer Johnriel Casimero by an angry mob in Argentina.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile moved for the adoption of a resolution directing the Department of Foreign Affairs to recall Philippine Ambassador Rey Carandang and summon Argentine Ambassador to the Philippines Joaquin Daniel Otero after Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III delivered a speech condemning the Feb. 11 attack.

The Senate adopted the resolution and the presiding officer, Sen. Loren Legarda, was quick to point out that Manila was not severing its ties with Buenos Aires.

Sotto called the attack a “black eye’’ on the image of Argentineans. Enrile described it as a “sordid and unfortunate incident.’’

“[In light of] the manner by which they mistreated, assaulted, insulted the honor of the country, as well as the person of that Philippine team, especially our boxer, I move that we direct the Department of Foreign Affairs under the power to ratify treaties, and to ratify the assignment of ambassadors to this country… to recall our ambassador to Buenos Aires, and to call the ambassador to this country to explain why they have the temerity to assault the flag, the honor, the dignity of this country represented by our boxer that went to the country thinking that this is a civilized country, and not a country of abnormal, uncivilized people,’’ Enrile said.

PH, Mexico sign bilateral pacts
Quote:
Manila, Philippines – Two bilateral agreements were signed between the Philippines and Mexico during Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Albert del Rosario’s visit to the latter country. Del Rosario signed the two bilateral agreements with Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa in Mexico last Monday, February 16.

The two agreements include establishing a Joint Bilateral Consultation Meeting and providing for the exchange of information, training modules and scholars for diplomatic training. It can be recalled that Espinosa earlier invited her Filipino counterpart over in Mexico for a Working Meeting to revisit Philippines-Mexico relations and chart its future directions.

Ang napansin ko lang parating pikon yung mga politikos natin -comments from ambassadors, tourists and even the results of frikin Miss U!! They must be trying to instill a false, shallow sense of nationalism which is quite similar to a victim mentality.
