 It’s perhaps considered somewhat kitsch, but I actually think Sony Center in Berlin is a really successful piece of architecture. I mean, all it offers is a cinema, expensive restaurants and a large office. So there isn’t really a good reason for people to be there, yet the place is always full of curios people, at all times of the day; tourists, students, people taking their lunch brake etc. The entire dome has a special atmosphere and despite its size people seem to find some peace and quiet there. I think architecture is really successful if people seek it just for the sake of being there. Among my personal favourites are Salk Institute by Louis Kahn and Marin County Civic Center by Frank Lloyd Wright:   Both of these buildings are perhaps somewhat outdated when it comes to building materials, decorations, interior etc., but their impact on their surroundings and their general form is still something to strive for. I am also a huge fan of everything Norman Foster & Partners manage to put out, but these buildings are posted here so often that everyone knows what I am talking about.
