Oslo is coming closer and closer to CPH every year. It wouldn't surprise me if it would become the most frequent Scandinavian airport in a short period of time.

Well, it'll probably happen sooner or later.

I don't view it as a dramatic change or anything. The airports are very different in terms of flight patterns, and Cph's position as major hub in northern europe is far from threatened.

Still, with regards to pax numbers, a lot can happen. Cph received many new finnish passengers this january, due to the deal with Blue1. That's reflected in a major increase in transfer pax. Several of those kinds of deals can boost the numbers for Cph in such degree that Osl won't be able to catch up before expansions. On the other hand, if SAS' position weakens in the future, that'll be a major blow to Kastrup, at least initially.

There are uncertain times, but CPH hasn't really lost anything, even if OSL surpasses them. It'll be a bigger blow if Norwegian knocks SAS out and starts to focus on OSL and ARN as the major hubs. Don't really see that happen for a long, long time though.

A significant increase in transfer traffic has strengthened Copenhagen Airport's position as the hub of northern Europe. Copenhagen Airport had more than 1.6 million passengers in February, a 6.5% year-on-year increase.

A total of 1,621,373 passengers travelled through Copenhagen Airport in February, which was a new monthly record for the airport.

The record was achieved due to a significant increase in the number of international passengers by 8.6% and, not least, growth in the number of transfer passengers by as much as 14.3%, mainly driven by a significant increase in traffic from Finland. Conversely, domestic traffic declined.

"Domestic traffic has grown by about 20% over the past three years due to increased competition and resulting in lower fares. However, we have recently seen a decline in domestic traffic due to reductions in the number of frequencies and in capacity," said Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales and Marketing for Copenhagen Airports A/S.

The leap day in February generated some additional traffic – supported by the fact that the previous February record was reached in 2008, which was also a leap year.
