Height limits are still there they dropped the height of this proposal from 90m to 60m... I have heard the interim height limit is almost ready to be firmed up between council and dpcd... Not sure if it will be the lower height or something taller.

it is strange that this area does seem to fit in the expanded CBD proposal. Very odd given the moves made last year.

Exactly, it seems like the planning minister wants an expanded CBD except for the area which blocks the views from one particular tower. What a joke!

Drove past RDT yesterday and I'm not 100% sure but it looks like the crown has changed??? Anyone can confirm? I don't remember these vertical ridges through it.

Bid for backyard
THE portion of St Kilda Road that falls within the suburb of St Kilda seems to be seeing a bigger wave of skyscraper construction than is taking place along the renowned tree-lined portion of the street closer to town. Another application has been lodged to build an apartment skyscraper, this time rising 16 levels, and on what is currently the backyard of the Stanthorpe estate on St Kilda Hill, which was built in 1874 for Scotland-born merchant Andrew Sutherland. Also known as Stafford House, and The Manse, the double-storey mansion on a 2880-square-metre block at 42 Barkly Street has in recent years been occupied as offices. A development company part-controlled by agent-turned developer Henry Birner has an option to buy the site from offshore investors, who paid about $4 million for it in 2006. The application requests that land behind the historic home and which abuts St Kilda Road, be subdivided. A permit for a mixed-use building with more than 80 flats has also been lodged. Last August, Planning Minister Matthew Guy approved a 26-level apartment tower not far from the Stanthorpe mansion site, at 3-5 St Kilda Road. To the south of Stanthorpe, the Maxx apartment project will rise 13 levels when complete while another application to replace offices at 3-7A Alma Road seeks to build a nine-level residential building. In the precinct of St Kilda Road classified as Melbourne (and with a postcode of 3004), the most ambitious proposal has been a 23-level building, earmarked to replace land in front of the Belgian Beer Cafe, on the north-east corner of Moubray Street. It would barely scrape in as a 'mid-rise' building. Nimbys, however, apparently see anything over 2 levels as a 'skyscraper' which tells you a lot about nimbys.
