I believe that malls like Centrus & Downtown (being part of townships) are being developed on a smaller scale primarily to cater to the basic & comfort needs of its township residents rather than attract outside masses, so we wont be seeing too many big & reputed brands here. Those will be catered by the big standalone malls like CCNT, Axis & DLF Galleria. BTW, Terminus is no longer a mall. Part of it is now 'The Pride' hotel.

Diamond City North Mall
Outside work looks complete. I guess the interior work will be going on.

Looks fantastic. Only sad part is that there is very little road space infront of this gigantic structure. Even though it is in a prime location like Baisakhi, access to it will be difficult, once its up and running.

i wonder.. even city like pune which is one fourth of kolkata now having premium brands like Zara, S'oliver, lerros, Steve madden, clerks, 2 tommy hilfiger stores, 2 mango stores (kolkata only has one ), 5 body shops (kolkata has 2), 5 marks & spencer stores (1 in kolkata), 3 esprit stores.. even it has luxury brand like Hermes, so when all these brands vil set up shops in kolkata?
we r much behind in case of international fashion brands in respect to delhi, mumbai, hydbd, blore even Pune ![]() m not taking example of delhi or mumbai dey r far ahead dan us, just taking example of b'lore.. which having atleast 4-5 best malls (in respect to mix of brands & size) than south city, kolkata like Market city, recently opened Orion mall, mantri mall, garuda mall etc etc. so when we kolkattans having another such premium & high end luxury mall like select city walk or Dlf promenade(delhi), high street phoenix including palladium (mumbai)(mumbai), which vil house of premium brands as well as luxury brands. ?? have heard abut spencers galleria, but vil dat touch da mark with these excellnt malls? i mean vil dat b a premium mall? |

Once the Spencer Galleria Mall will be operational you will find brands like Gucci, Versace, Blahnik, Canali , Salvatore Ferragamo, Bottega Veneta, Ermenegildo Zegna,Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH), BVLGARI etc etc. Kolkata already has a luxury mall and that is Forum Courtyard. Now you can't judge a city how good it is with this high street brands. For an example Milan has more number of High Street brands & Designery shops Toronto. But city wise Toronto is much much better than Milan. |

No of malls, size of malls, no of foreign brands present are not any kind of parameters to measure a city's growth or superiority. It's the economy (how much money people have) that matters. As soumalya rightfully pointed out, Cities like Milan (the fashion capital of the world) is a lesser city than many others which doesn't even have 1/10th of no of stores that Milan have. I beg to differ with you, that B'lore has 4-5 bigger malls than Kolkata. PMC & Orion Mall have come up within the recent 5 months. Prior to that only Mantri Square was bigger than South City. By 2011 reports (most of whom have been shared by me in this thread) South City (ranked 8th) & Mani Square (ranked 19th) were among the biggest 25 malls of India. As far as brand mix is concerned, South City, Forum/Forum Courtyard have brand assortments comparable to any great mall in India; in fact better than many. I dont know whether you're aware, South City has a good concentration of leading foreign brands (list has been furnished before). Forum Courtyard is an out-an-out Luxury mall with only foreign brands. Even Mani Square has some foreign brands though of lesser numbers. If you want names you can wind back the pages of this thread or I can provide you. All the three along with the 2 City Centres are categorised under Premium, Destination Malls of India, which has about 50 names in that list & where Garuda Mall & many known ones doesn't even feature. If you're referring to the class of luxury mall, then wait for Spencers Galleria, which will be the biggest luxury mall in India, much much bigger than the size of DLF Promenade/Palladium/UB City. And yes its standards will surpass those you have mentioned. Also keep an eye out for Acropolis for a good dose of foreign brands

West Bengal's biggest brand name and icon wears a cotton saree, hawai chappal and a sense of warmth towards her subjects.
Most people wear lungis or dhotis or gamcchas. Even the finance minister has upgraded his wardrobe to dhotis. The majority of women wear sarees. What is the need for fashion houses here ? |
