Yeah Guarini is pure emotion and theater!
and another one great "flamboyant baroque" often underrated active in Torino was Juvarra, the father of splendour like Stupinigi, Superga or Palazzo Madama...I'm in love with baroque!

Castello del Valentino (Carlo e Amedeo di Castellamonte - 1660) - Turin -
The ancient castle was bought by Duke Emmanuel Philibert of Savoy on the advice of Andrea Palladio. The name Valentino, first mentioned in 1275, seems to derive from a saint called Valentine whose relics were venerated in a church which stood nearby. The current structure is due to Princess Christine Marie of France (1606–1663), wife of Victor Amadeus I, who dwelt here from 1630. It has a horseshoe shape, with four round towers at each angle, and a wide inner court with a marble pavement. The ceilings of the false upper floors are clearly in transalpino (i.e. French) style. The faįade sports a huge coat of arms of the House of Savoy. Works lasted until 1660. Minor modifications were made in the early nineteenth century; at this time, too, much of the seventeenth-century furniture was carried off by French troops. For the next half century the palace was more or less abandoned and fell into a state of disrepair. Renovations were carried out in 1860 when it was selected as the seat of the engineering faculty of Turin; it has been further restored in recent years. Today it is the central building of the Architecture faculty of the Polytechnic University of Turin. Church of San Filippo Neri - from 1675 - Antonio Bettino and Filippo Juvarra - Turin
The church was begun in 1675 by Antonio Bettino and reconstructed, after the collapse of the dome, on a project by Filippo Juvarra (1715-1730); the Corinthian pronaos of the faįade can be attributed to Giuseppe Maria Talucchi (1835). The inside, the biggest one among the churches of Turin, has got a single rectangular nave covered by a barrel vault with elliptical windows and stuccoes. Along the sides there are three chapels alternated with little choirs in a double order. The high altar with six bent pillars is a work of art by Francesco Maria Giudici (1697-1703); the altar-piece was made by Carlo Maratta (1701-1708). Beside the church there is an oratory of San Filippo, a project by Juvarra (1723) and finished by Ignazio Agliaudo di Tavagliano. The inside is formed by a single nave, with frescoed vault and walls decorated by stuccoes and paints by Mattia Franceschini and Giovanni Conca; the Immacolata and San Filippo Neri at the altar is a work of art by Sebastiano Conca The Neoclassical pronaos of the faįade by Giuseppe Maria Talucchi (1835): image hosted on flickr ![]() http://farm2.staticflickr.com/1270/4...9f4129d9_b.jpg photo by twiga_swala on Flickr image hosted on flickr ![]() http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2496/4...1565ebd6_z.jpg photo by HEN-Magonza on Flickr The Central Nave by Filippo Juvarra (1715-1730): image hosted on flickr ![]() http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2193/2...938c6347_o.jpg photo by istriano on Flickr image hosted on flickr ![]() http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7199/6...d560afbe_z.jpg photo by papaitox on Flickr The High Altar by Francesco Maria Giudici (1697-1703) with the Altarpiece by Carlo Maratta (1701-1708): image hosted on flickr ![]() http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5198/5...fd9a7c9e_b.jpg photo by HEN-Magonza on Flickr Last edited by Beato Angelico; February 27th, 2012 at 09:49 PM. |
