I love the look of Chateau de Vaux Viconte near the city of Mollun south east corner of Paris at 1:46 and off course La DEFENCE at the end ... simply beautiful.

Time goes by...In the next few days or weeks at most, the Préfecture des Hauts-de-Seine will give or not its 'go ahead' to the planning permission of the Hermitage Plaza twin towers.Those two 320m supertall, the tallest of La Défense, are to be erected after the demolition of the 'Damiers' scheme, 3 LEGO shaped residences dating from the 70's.

To date, 190 out of the 250 residents of the 'Damiers' have been relocated, 40 are awaiting relocation proposals, & the last 20 refuse to leave (some of them have lodged an appeal).

I think what Paris needs is a smaller, high quality tower in a prominent location to help dispel the anger against proposed tall building. London got this with the Gherkin, which became extremely popular and opinion on tall buildings has improved greatly since, allowing the current boom in skyscraper construction.

The only problem for Paris is where to put such a tower?

Gosh I much enjoyed the video ... can't get enough of such. I have to marry a helicopter pilot in Paris. LOL

You are right. Maybe the residents of those buildings would be happier if something more edgy will be built there or if the Hermitage plan is adjusted a bit to the taste of the people of Paris. Maybe 80+ storey is a bit too much for now, but who knows, Twin towers of max 70 storey's will make a better deal. To me, all is fine with La Defence as long as they really break through the barriere of 45 floor skyscrapers and put more punch into today's sculpted version which looks lovely yet needs a lil bit of a zesty taste.

St Lazare area in the heart of Paris's central business district would be the ideal location, but it's still a major taboo. The ideal street to start the first skyscraper in the heart of Paris would be Rue du Havre (8th arrondissement). A couple old buildings there have no value and could be torn down. It's outside of protection heritage corridors, and outside of height ceilings defined by aviation authorities (i.e. in theory you can build in that street and the streets around any building as tall as you want, as long as the City Hall approves it). If they build a tower in that street with the same height and quality as the Gherkin, I think it will change forever the way Parisians approach tall buildings.

Problem is, it would require a very bold mayor to push such a project. Financially, there is no problem at all. A tower in that street would be like winning the lottery for any developper, so there would be tons of developpers interested, and they'd be ready to spend much more money for quality design than at La Défense. The only issue is a psychological and political one, nothing else.

As part as the MIPIM 2012 in Cannes (whose opening took place today), Emin Iskenderov -Hermitage boss- announced having been granted his twin towers planning permission. Furthemore, he added that the very last resident of the INFRA residence -who refused to go- eventually left her flat last friday:

"Fort de ce permis de construire, et du départ du dernier locataire de l’immeuble Infra, le groupe Hermitage devrait être en mesure de démarrer les travaux préparatifs de désamiantage à partir du 15 mars 2012", indique le groupe"

Therefore, the preparation works for the INFRA building will finally begin from March 15th (asbestos removal) the group said.

Great news! Western Europe needs more supertalls. These could end up being the third tallest twin stuctures in the world after the Petronas Towers and Emerates Park Towers.

Yes, this is the greatest day in the history of the Hermitage project so far.

To complete what Jex7844 said, according to Le Figaro the three buildings permits have been officially issued by the public authorities today. Nothing can stop the project anymore. Even if the Socialists come back to power in May, they can't block the project now.

Of course, there will be some legal challenges against the building permits in the courts initiated by opponents of the projects, but in general legal challenges against building permits rarely succeed, and I imagine that for such an iconic project the public authorities have taken extreme care to make the building permits legally impeccable (that's why the issuance of the building permits was postponed from January till now).

The only thing that can stop the project now is if the Russian developper becomes discouraged with the length of the judicial proceedings and decides to call it quit, but so far they show no sign of calling it quit, quite the opposite!

The other good news is the last tenant of the Damiers d'Infra building who refused to leave has finally left, so Hermitage can start asbestos removal work in this building. They say asbestos removal work will start on March 15, which will be the real start of the demolition-construction of the tallest towers in the EU.
