I agree..the Moderne has been making me think about that riverfront high rise that was one of the first high density proposals of the downtown "condo boom" of the late 90s and 2000s. It never was built, but I remember the excitement people had about it - I think it was to have been located along the eastern banks of the Milwaukee river just off of State and Edison I believe..I think it would have gone where the Rojahn and Malaney flower distributer is, if I'm not mistaken...

I remember that proposed development. The "River Tower" would have been an awesome building with the entire structure being clad in green glass curtain walls. Found the story about it in JS Archives. Downtown condos gain financing River Tower builders expect to break ground in December Author: TOM DAYKIN Journal Sentinel staff Publication: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (WI) Publish Date: September 6, 2001 image hosted on flickr ![]() River Tower, a proposed downtown condominium high-rise, has secured its construction financing and plans to break ground in December, a spokesman for the developers said Wednesday. As a result, the 25-story River Tower would be the second among a group of four condo high-rises proposed for Milwaukee to begin construction. |

Topping off The Moderne today?
Has anyone found out if The Moderne was topping off today? They have already reached the 30th Floor and was checking to see if anyone has info on that.

That would be really cool if they just kept building and fooled us all. The Moderne kept rising past the 40 story mark and all of us are standing at the base looking up wondering what the heck!

Look for a pine tree or an American flag.

I think the moderne is an amazing new development and i cant wait to see it completed. After it is completed I would love to see alot of cleaning-up to do west of the milwaukee river and i have always dreamed of 2 condos one built on the east side of the milwaukee river and one on the west and both are connected with an enclosed-bridge like walkway over the river. I think that would rock!

sorry, guys... I would have been adding updated photos but I hurt my back pretty badly in February and I haven't been able to do much other than get to and from work. I'll see if I can snap some photos this weekend for you, though, and post them on here.

Nice shots MMax! I really like the first one -- one of my favorites of the Milwaukee skyline.

That shot also really shows how well the Washington Square development would fill a void in the skyline. Especially if it were to be 30 stories.
