Future tech and our cities

I've been wondering for a while, what will be the impact of our new technologies on our cities? For example, supermarkets now employ computer tills instead of people and computers do many jobs humans use to do.

Will this mean rising unemployment? I have a fear that a city like London will become ''quiet'' in the next few years. People will have little reason to leave their houses. Why go shopping when you can use a computer and have it delivered? Why see your friends when you can play on GTA 4 with them?

Or will we just adjust like humanity always has?
