Nope, they didn't..They simply replaced, during the 80's, the old velodrome track by stands (like in most French stadiums during the 70's/80's) ! |

These are the old ones, the new seats installed in 2006 have backrests (at least in the upper stands). In the lower stands they can't install real seats for now because of lack of space & because of the very low slope.BTW, all the lower stands will be rebuilt (as asked by UEFA in order to meet the Euro 2016 requirements*) and of course real seats will be installed in the whole stadium. *UEFA new requirements (from Euro 2016): Quote:

Was there a study done into whether or not a new stadium would actually be a better option? It sounds like a fair amount of work is needed just to bring the existing stadium up to the new requirements. The overall increase in capacity is also on the small side.

Of course there were some studies on that matter, but, well, the current refurbishment (and small extension) will cost approx. €54 million (100% publicly funded). While a new stadium would have cost more than €300/350 million (+ the access/transportation works etc), and since none of the two major teams (the rugby and football ones) want/are able to foot such a bill .... And of course the Toulouse Municipality will certainly never agree to foot this bill either. Not to mention that the rugby team owns its stadium (Stade Ernest Wallon: 20K), and they have paid for an important redevelopment of this stadium less than 10 years ago. Yep it does look like it's going to be on the cheap side of things!
It's okay it gets the stadium to 43000 comfortable seats, It doesn't damage too much the overall look of the stadium, which I like. And it leaves lots of room for 'club paid' improvement! But why do I have the impression that the lower stand first row remains at quite a distance from the pitch!? Last edited by Neda Say; March 4th, 2012 at 12:41 PM. |

this stadium is a superb project
![]() Simply and efficient. All Euro 2016 toulouse bid needs. But doesn't UEFA recomand no fences around the stadiums? I see some of them in this renders:

UEFA wants stadia to be sanctuaries for the fans! A manager of StadeFrance told me so himself! The trick being how to establish these sanctuaries without any kind of fence or wall! As a result most french stadium do have fences to protect facilities cause they don't really have proper doors!

UEFA requires no fences between the pitch and fans, but they do require fences around every stadium of the Euro.
