something to music and all these skyscrapers lighting up would be ace.

Welcome. Yes, the budget (set in 2007) was £496m, and, although it looked for a time as if it might go well over that, in the end it was completed under-budget at around £486m. But the budget was a big increase on the estimate (at the time of the bid back in 2004), which was only £282m.

Where has the £550 million number I've seen mentioned around come from?

The anticipated final cost of the Olympic Stadium is £431 million not £486 million as reported. http://www.culture.gov.uk/images/pub...1_Feb_2012.pdf

page 10 of 16 shows the latest costs

I have the same image as you guys but they look completely soulless and without many design features, just as the renders showed them.

These have to be, without doubt, one of the most depressing compromises of the whole project. Such little imagination it hurts.

Take your point about SSCity naval gazing in this regard, but unfortunately, those boxes are smack bang in front of the most photographed/filmed building during the Olympics.

Put them outside the White Water Canoeing centre in Broxbourne, or even the handball arena, and I wouldn't care a jot.

But the stadium?
