Learning Outside the Classroom

My family travels three to four times year
and we always take our kids for them to see the world

I remember
when my daughter was still in a traditional school…
…the principal would always comment:
“ang tagal baka hindi makahabol and bata”

...whenever we ask permission for a one to two week break
from school so they could travel with us.

When she transferred to The Village Montessori School,

...they were allowed to travel even on school days,
and it was the only school in Naga that believes
that learning can be done- away from classrooms…

…from day long museum tours
and stage plays…

…to the slopes of Mt. Isarog…

…from an organic farm...

...to their classmates' homes...

Considering that theirs is a multi- cultural class
where childrens’ ability to speak in English
is far better that their ability to speak the mother tongue…

…they were exposed to learning the Filipino culture...

...again, beyond the confines of their classroom…

…and my daughter said it was fun.

Just like what the school’s 12th anniversary theme says…

With no grades to keep and no home works to do
The Village Montessori School in Naga literally- ROCKS.

Indeed, learning is more fun in the Philippines
(the American Montessori way)

this post is dedicated to TVMS Naga
from a grateful parent - as a sign of gratitude
to a the only child friendly school in Naga
that adheres to the real American Montessori System.

I've met someone who actually studies in ISM, is it true that their tuition fee could reach the million-peso mark?
There are people who have both brains and money. The two are not mutually exclusive. Some students can't accept this fact hence they generalize IS students as dumb to give themselves a supposed advantage. As with any school, there are both slow and fast learners in International Schools. Some continue their studies in Ivy League Schools, UP or Ateneo, some go to mediocre schools.

Still, the general performance of major International Schools is a lot better than the average Filipino HS.

There are advantages and disadvantages. IS provides you with holistic education. Local schools, even esteemed private schools, place a premium on core subjects like Math or Science without providing avenue for other fields of interest such as Latin or Modern European History. These are subjects which you usually won't take up in college and high school is the only change to learn these at a leisurely pace.

The downside is that since most of your classmates are expatriates, they'll leave the country after graduating hence you can only maintain few friends. As many would agree, it's really our high school classmates that stay with us for life.
