Excellent updates Rushabh, def agree they should have gone for 6 lanes, or even a BRT lane at this stage.

Look at lower Manhattan, it's nothing but a 3D graph of landprices v/s demand, manifested by skyscrapers.

I don't think we should do another Dubai here, the bubble is bursting there, and we should learn from other people's mistakes. If there is a need (like in SoBo), skyscrapers will come up by themselves.

Look at London, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin etc. the cities are awesome even without a "skyline". I think we should focus to that than jacking up FSI here and there just to make the city "look" beautiful in the pictures.... which are mostly taken from far away either from a boat, or from an airplane.

Well... london has made Docklands, and Paris has made la Defense as their CBD, and we are building GIFT. The rest of the city is not more than G+10 max. And if u walk in the streets of lower manhattan, you would crave for some 'sky' and 'sun' as all u see around u is flat boxes of steel and glass. Sky peneteration is very important for the psycological well being of the citizens.

Considering all these factors, it would be better if we derive beauty from our own skyline (by removing telephone towers from the terraces of the buildings, for example) than to ape something which is nearing its doomsday anyway
Yeah, majority of the land is going to be open space anyway, so shouldnt be too bad. Interesting looking, well designed mid-rises can look great as well.

What you say about London is not strictly correct (though most will wish it was!), apart from the docklands there is also the City of London witnessing a slew of tall buildings coming up and of course Western Europes tallest, "the Shard". At the moment, as the UK slips into another recession, the only thing keeping these projects from negative coverage is the fact that all the attention is being dragged to how a far greater amount money is being wasted on the Olympics instead!

Just as a group of G+10 towers can look boring, even a G+60 skyscraper cluster can look dull.

An observation deck with radio mast and conference facilities would be better. Like oriental pearl, or tokyo tower

I tried that. You mean the one which offers Avatar size to 1600x1200 ? I even tried optimize and do not resize. But every time I get the same size. Is there a way to resize pics after they has been uploaded ?

Do not use Optimize and Do not resize for pics. They work better for e-paper articles. For images use 1024x768 (17 inch monitor) or 800x600 (15 inch monitor) from this list. (see this img)

It was reported in press that some students from London School of Economics came to view Riverfront project by invitation of CEPT.

Am sure these shots are from that visit. Hopefully they enjoyed their time in Ahmedabad.

Nice pics...

I hope they maintain the trees properly. They are the key to this project's success. Central Ahmedabad needs more green cover, and soon!

Not if they had to drive on our roads. They are still probably recovering from the trauma

The roads are good, but the traffic discipline is not something that Londoners are familiar with. India's traffic discipline (or the lack of it) creates a very bad impression on any foreigner.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation bags Housing & Urban Development Corporation award for Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd., Kankaria lake project

Quote:
AHMEDABAD: Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has bagged yet another national award. This time, for 'Best Practices to Improve the Living Environment' for its Kankaria Lake Development project and the Sabarmati River Front Development project.

The national award was given by Housing & Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO). AMC officials said that in all 69 entries were received by HUDCO for the award and of these, nine projects were selected.

The award has been instituted by HUDCO with the intention that there are numerous sub-areas which require attention and support by sustainable environment-friendly technologies. Such good practices are emerging and need recognition, publicity and appreciation. Union minister of housing and urban poverty alleviation Kumari Selja handed over the award to AMC officials in New Delhi. This is the third national recognition for the Sabarmati River Front Development project. Earlier, SRFDCL had bagged the prime minister's award for the best concept and design of a public project, while the social housing project had received the national award for the innovative service to urban poor. Kankaria lake was renovated at a cost of Rs 30 crore. The lake was redesigned and the area around the lake was declared as no-entry zone. The lake was officially inaugurated in December 2008 with the beginning of a weeklong event known as 'Kankaria Carnival'.
