AirAsia X: Clark to LAX or SFO, might just be the most successful ultra long houl service when opened

We really have to wait and see there. Remember? United Airlines pulled out of the Philippines in the past, leaving NWA now Delta as the only US carrier serving the mainland US to the Philippines with the exception of Hawaiian airlines. I am not really sure how AirAsia can offer a much cheaper airfare on a long haul LCC that over 13 hours flying time. Another question is that, will the passenger really find AirAsia cheaper when they have to pay onboard all the airline amenities a legacy carrier would offer the passengers

I don't know how Jetstar can possibly fly Tokyo from any points in the Philippines unless they follow the Air Asia formula. Perhaps never because its not even RP registered airline. AOP assumes registration, and availment of traffic right assumes registration from one of the contracting states.

Jetstar is neither Japanese nor Filipino. Its Singaporean from an Aussie mother. So I don't really know why they pursue this in the first case.

But they continue the SIN-MNL-KIX-MNL-SIN flight.

MVP keen on 3 airport plans

http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/business/...-airport-plans

MANILA, Philippines - Businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan said on Tuesday his group is very keen on pursuing projects via the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Program, particularly three of the busiest airports in the country.

He cited Naia (Ninoy Aquino International Airport), Mactan International Airport and Clark International Airport.

“The country is in need of infra projects. I think it’s up to the government to decide which they should privatize first. There is no assurance that anybody can win it. I am not saying that we will win all three or one. It’s going to be a competitive bidding. There are only three airports that I can think of that are attractive for the moment. I could be wrong,” said Pangilinan.

He added that Puerto Princesa airport could also attract a good bid but his group, Pangilinan said, is “not interested at the moment.”

For other airports, Pangilinan said, “there should be a critical mass of tourists” before these are put on the auction block. “Then that’s the time to privatize.”

Pangilinan said there was a need for reliable commuter trains in heavily populated areas, such as from Manila to Tarlac.

“Why not use NorthRail because the alignment is there already. They should look at it, at least going to Nueva Ecija, Tarlac and up to Pangasinan because the NorthRail ends in Pampanga,” said Pangilinan. “We do need commuter trains because the beneficial effect is to decongest Metro Manila,” he added.

His group had also expressed its intention to bid for the Cavite extension of the Light Rail Transit Authority.

They also answer this:

In compensation, it has linked Darwin-Manila to a Manila-Tokyo service, meaning Territorians can book straight through to Japan via the Philippines.

But the Manila-Tokyo sector has been grounded by a challenge to the air regulator by Philippine Airlines.

Australia and the Philippines have a bilateral agreement allowing an Australian airline to operate services from Manila to Japan. The first objection to this provision by Philippine Airlines was rejected.

But it has followed up by lodging an unprecedented second complaint. However, Jetstar hopes to have the service operating soon.

The news report doesn't paint the whole picture.

True. Aussie Airlines has 5th freedom rights to Japan, but that right excludes Manila. What has been stipulated clearly in the Bilaterals is Manila-Clark. That could'nt be NAIA. Thus, the PAL complaint. What has been dismissed is the right to fly, not the right to fly from where.

The story doesn't end there. The caveat of the ASA is that it must be subject to approval by the third state, which is Japan of course. Its not CAB fault if Japan closes its door. The Japan JQ subsidiary doesn't even have an AOC to speak of. I'm surprise why they have TOP in the first place.

I still have to hear Jetstar flying to Osaka five days from first published flight.

Bringing the Singapore equation adds more misery to the applicant. A Singaporean registered plane is not Aussie even if its owners are. To follow the airline's argument would be allowing Singapore Airlines to also fly Japan via Philippine airports. JQ can never be 3K.

While Darwin flight is allowed to continue to Japan, ex-Singapore isn't. And for them to enter Manila- NAIA, they must be a registered Japanese airline to be entitled to some seats to and from Japan. And that is the bottom line of the PR complaint.

Most of the Chinese airlines (mainland to be specific) seem to have the same liveries that are reminiscent of the Soviet era.

Brand new plane. Philippine Airlines (PAL) takes delivery of its 14th Airbus A320 which brings to 37 PAL's fleet of wide-body and single aisle jets. Upon arriving from Hamburg, Germany, the brand new plane was welcomed by PAL president Jaime Bautista (2nd from right). During simple blessing rites at the maintenance hangar of Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP), Bautista was joined by PAL executives and representatives from LTP and Airbus.
