I think the building is okay but the shard will be better on its own

Looks like previous speculation that this was being resurrected may have been a little premature as the site has been up for sale for a while and it appears Sellar have never owned the site despite ascertains posted by local nimbys.

Unless Sellar buys the site ( and you would presume he would've by now as this scheme has been rumbling for a few years now) it may be the case that this scheme doesn't get beyond fancy renderings which would be a damn shame.

It would seem sensible to me for Sellar to wait until the shard is completed and bringing in money, otherwise he would just be competing with himself.

I hope it does go up eventually, makes a nice neighbour to the shard.

I think the point is Sellar doesn’t own the site so unless he does its doubtful this project will go any further.

Yes, it's been built, they've just kept it a big secret.

The site is now being used by Network Rail for the redevelopment of London Bridge Station so don't expect much for at least another five years.

People are obsessed with locking threads around here. Just leave it. How are people supposed to post when news is available?

kiss these good bye.... unless people act

the spectre of "localism" looms, the Bermondsey Village Action Village want to apply a 5 story limit of the area

http://bvag.net/st-thomas-st-plan-stp

Quote:
BVAG (Bermondsey Village Action Group) is coordinating a plan for the St Thomas St area to be put forward for adoption by Southwark Council as planning policy for the area under the provisions of the new Localism Act.

Presently identified policy components include:
  • Building height limits to be denoted by a contour map .
  • Revision of the northern boundary of the Bermondsey St conservation area.
  • Site briefs for the key sites in St Thomas St.

Although the Council website specifies...

Quote:
Neighbourhood planning needs to be a positive process, so it cannot be used to block development that is needed in the borough. However, it could be used to influence the type of development that takes place in a neighbourhood, whereabouts it takes place, what it looks like and the mix of uses that are included.

On the site there is a brief outline about the types of Neighbourhood planning so it looks like BAVG is going for a Neighbourhood Plan, where it states that plans must be "positive and encourage sustainable development", not sure if BAVG quite gets that but do people think isolating the Shard is positive?

Quote:
Neighbourhood planning can be pursued in three different ways:

Neighbourhood Plan – a plan that sets out policies for new development in the neighbourhood. plans must be positive and encourage sustainable development
Neighbourhood Development Order (NDO) – An NDO means that certain types of development can take place in an area without the need to apply for planning permission
Community Right to Build Order – Similar to an NDO, but this gives the residents within the neighbourhood the power to actually undertake certain development without the need to apply for planning permission
Finally comments about their plan and the wider plan can be made to:

is BVAG still being run by that rival property develpoer or has he stood down and removed the commercial interests from the group turning it into something rather more community driven?
