Wow, the Ram Brewery plan look fantastic! It'll finally provide Wandsworth with a proper town centre at last. Eventually Wandsworth will be transformed into one of the best towns in London from being one of the worst currently.

The next stage of Southside Shopping Centre's redevelopment programme has been given the green light.

A planning application to Wandsworth Council to redevelop the 'Arndale Walk' wing of the centre was approved last week by the planning application committee.

The existing building frontage along Garratt Lane and on the corner of Wandsworth High Street will also be redeveloped as part of the scheme, with a new run of glass fronted shops created to enhance the appearance of this busy part of the town centre.

There would also be new investment in the public space immediately outside the shopping centre.

Earlier this month work began on another part of the Southside complex further south on Garratt Lane.

This phase of works will create a new retail and restaurant block which joins up with the existing shopping centre frontage at Café Nero.

At street level it will provide a row of glass fronted shops and restaurants along with outdoor seating on the first floor. The surrounding pavement and street fixtures will also be upgraded.

Phase two has been undergoing demolition for weeks now, can a mod update the thread title?

As of yesterday, there is now a large piling drill on site.

Phase 2 is making good progress. The area about Nero is ccovered by a covering and most of the old waste ground has been dug up.

The steel frame structure is currently being slotted together.

Thanks for fixing the photos!

What is great about this construction work is the use of pre existing structures on site. Instead of pulling down the buildings already there, they have been included within the frame. For example, existing columns and beams are still in place.

Will try and get some photos today if i can.

As promised, here are the photos of the frame.

In the first photo you can see the frame of the original building that occupied the site, built in concrete. The new frame, is in steel next to it.

Really impressed with this saving of existing structure where it is possible to keep it.

The second photo is just the blue safety net that has gone up in the last few days on the larger building next door, on the site of the old bingo hall.

tbh this is my least favourite shopping centre i know of... bluewater or westfield are much nicer and have better shops :\ but hopefully it should turn out better
