The one at Blackburn has a wide walkway at the front, same here?
![]() Looking at that, there's not much room.

There's plenty of room to get 2500 people in and, more importantly, out of each end. The concourse under one of the stands at Leeds is only about as wide as that with only 2 exits (one at either end) and that can accommodate 7000 (3500 at either side)

I doubt that meets any fire regulations...

I believe that they need to be able to evacuate the stands within 8 mins in an emergency. They can evacuate onto the pitch if needs be although this is far from ideal.
There would not be a hope in hell of them getting a safety certificate if that was a permanent structure so maybe they're pushing it with the regulations on this... |

In terms of evacuation and fireproofing, in what was do you feel it inadequate to any other structure of the same size?
It's not build of materials that will catch fire, nor does it seem more difficult to exit than a similar sized stand. |

Bare in mind this is a temp stand and will not stay in it's current configuration.
Stand got it's licence last night as 2500 fans turned up for a reserve game. It is indeed accessed at either end by walking along the front, as at Blackburn. Got a feeling away fans will enjoy themselves....everything is metal, so great accoustics. All set for Saturday. |

Away fans will love it, hopefully the stewarding will be liberal enough to allow standing while keeping safety and control.

does anyone know what the long-term aim is? are they ultimately going for a uniform bowl? does this temporary structure lay the foundations for that?
the ground's unrecognisable from the one i stood at in the 90s. i swear you could see blackpool tower from the south stand. or maybe i've made that up... |

I think the long term plan is to make the temp stand permanent, enlarging it and incorporating other facilities, as at Worcester RUFC.
The club have been in discussions with the local econonmic developement agancy about this, but acquiring the land behind the stand is the biggest obstacle. I am told the owners are close to having all the land they need but more will be required. If the current stand at Worcester is any guide, it is likely to remain a stand alone developement, although filling in the corners remains a possibility should the want to do that. |

Was there some new last week regarding increasing capacity even if they get relegated?

The chairman was quoted recently as saying that the new semi-prem stand is effectively permanent and will suffice for the next 10 years or more.
He also said he suspects that the PL will be insisting on a 20k minimum capacity for all clubs, at some point in the near future. Given this, he would be looking to expand the North and West sides rather than the new stand which would entail CP of houses behind. Apparently he would rather relocate than get into that. When asked about a new training ground, his response was that he didn't understand why fans are concerned about such things and said he thought that footballers are only interested in money and not the training facilities. Full minutes from this meeting (with supporters) are available on the avftt.co.uk message board. |

Link of what the new blackpool south east corner is supposed to look like, work started a few months back but not much else has happened. Due to the south east corner work half of the east stand has had to be closed. |

Just Blackpool's way of doing things, isn't it? Replaced those hideously faded seats yet?

There are a few pics of the outside of the new South East corner at this link that somebody took a couple of weeks back.
http://s790.photobucket.com/albums/y...h%20east%2034/ Even though the seats are now in place, they cannot be used, but the council have allowed us to sell about 600 seats in the home side of the East Stand for the last few games, with the spectators using the facilities under the South Stand. When will this stand be open? Who knows, capacity wise we don't really need it, although it is needed if we want more supporters in the East Stand as they will use the facilities under it when it opens. The other use of this stand is that it is the entrance and restaurant for the hotel that is built into the top 2 floors of the South Stand. Seeing as we are approaching the holiday season you would think they would be rushing to try and get it complete. So we may see an increase of builders from 2 to 3. The towns moto is 'Progress', where as the football clubs is 'Why do something fast, when it can be done slow' The faded seats haven't been replaced. |
