I do that too.
One time, in my transit district (Tampa, FL, US btw), one bus route that travels through one of the universities had an incorrect route number displayed in the LED signs. I happened to be driving that evening, but saw the bus right in front of me. When I realized that the driver had the wrong route displayed, I pulled up alongside the bus at a stoplight and rolled my window down. The driver then saw me trying to get her attention and she opened the door of the bus. I then told her that her bus was displaying the wrong route number and she laughed, saying "Oh my gosh, thank you!" She immediately changed the display and closed the door, shortly driving away thereafter.
