Anyway, the attitude I've taken is that I think OBP is almost a sure thing now from what I've read, and by time it's completed in 2018, several other projects will be completed by then. So I've decided to wait until 2018 and see what we have at that point. There should be a lot of other new stuff for me to shoot from the observation deck of OBP, especially at night. I'm salivating 6 years in advance as we speak. I'm tired of the ups and downs of individual projects. I've decided we're going to get OBP and several other projects by the end of this decade. We just can't be sure what they will be at this point. In all my years of studying skyscrapers as a hobby, I have never seen this kind of continued skyscraper development in any other American city outside of New York and Chicago.

I just saw this posted in the South Florida Business Journal:
![]() Here is the link: http://www.bizjournals.com/southflor...-expected.html Miami’s One Bayfront Plaza expected to be finished in 2018 Developer Tibor Hollo is waiting for existing leases to expire in 2014 before demolishing a downtown Miami building on the site where he plans the tallest tower south of Atlanta. Construction on the 80-story One Bayfront Plaza, which would rise 1,010 feet, could be completed by the first quarter of 2018. The site is at 100 S. Biscayne Blvd, where Vitas Healthcare is currently headquartered. Hollo plans to develop 4.2 million square feet of space that will include 700 luxury residences; 200,000 square feet of retail; 650,000 square feet of offices; a four-star, 500-room hotel; a five-star, 120-room hotel; and ... I like that rendering! Much more Miami looking than the previous Spire rendering. But 2018? UGHHH!

I agree! As I've said before, the other design was a bit too Dubai-looking for me and seemed as though it would stick out in the skyline like a sore thumb, but it is being redesigned yet again, so we really don't know what it's going to look like. Hey! If 2018 means more of a chance of us getting this because of the market, I can wait!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fueled by investors primarily from overseas, less than 4,300 new condo units remain unsold from a supply of nearly 49,000 units created since 2003 in South Florida’s seven largest coastal markets of Greater Downtown Miami, South Beach, Sunny Isles Beach, Hollywood / Hallandale Beach, Downtown Fort Lauderdale and the Beach, Boca Raton / Deerfield Beach, and Downtown West Palm Beach and Palm Beach Island as of Dec. 31, 2011, according to a recent CondoVultures.com report. To overcome the obvious financing hurdle, most of the newly proposed projects are requiring prospective buyers to commit to deposits - to be paid in phases - of as much as 80 percent of the preconstruction contract price, industry watchers said.

In the case of MyBrickell, buyers are required to pay 80% before closing. They took reservations prior to the purchase agreements, I'm told only one reservation did not convert and that there are only 12 units left.

Looking at NYC, and one wrld trade center, which is 1770 ft. How come it is taking miami so long to get a super tall, other than the FAA blocking it, and rough economy.

I would rather have a dozen plus nice looking, tall towers (say in the 400-800 range) than 1 or 2 super talls. Don't want the skyline to resemble Charlotte or Oklahoma City.

Gotta say, though, I don't think the 1000-foot mark is really anything very magical or extraordinary these days---not with so much going up around the world that far exceeds that standard. Would be great to see it happen regardless!

BofA mainfestly does not overpower the Charlotte skyline. Neither will 1,010 ft. next to 764 ft.

I just want one supertall. Then I'm happy with us building as many shitty 800 ft buildings not worth caring about or putting an observation deck on. Or better, buildings with good ground level urban life (of whatever height).
But that's just me I guess. Last edited by CalleOchoGringo; May 2nd, 2012 at 10:15 PM. |
