Korangi Creek Industrial Park (KCIP) Updates:

This is a project of National Industrial Parks Development and Management Company (NIP), a subsidiary of PIDC.

NIP has so far completed 2.8 million gallons under ground water reservoir, 50,000 gallons overhead reservoir, under ground UPVC water distribution network, pumping station along with back-up generator, Underground sewerage network with manholes for each plot. On the other hand 14.7 mmcfd gas has already been sanctioned by the SSGC while KWSB has sanctioned water supply of 3.5 mgd.


This project is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 3.3 billion which will have an investment opportunity of Rs20 billion and potential to contribute Rs 40 billion annually to the GDP. The KCIP project will also be able to provide 30,000 direct and 180,000 indirect employments to Karachiites.


The project offers foreign and local entrepreneurs with guaranteed uninterrupted power supply through 48 mw captive power plant and all essential utilities like water, gas and telecommunication. The hallmark of this industrial zone is perimeter wall with controlled entry and exit to the complex spread over an area of 240 acres at Korangi Creek.



So far they have been able to sell 49 acres amounting to Rs.1000 million (payment received Rs.440 million and payment receivable Rs.567 million) out of 103 acres of saleable land while a number of applications are still in the pipeline.

This shows that Karachi is still an attractive place for the investors provided they are given solid surety that their investment would be safe and of course profitable.

Over the next few months, expect heavy traffic around the Do Talwar area. By May of this year, it will have the honour to be a neighbour with the country’s tallest building.

Ocean Towers, formerly known as Sofitel Towers, is 393 feet high and will house a shopping mall, food courts, corporate offices and a business club, said the project’s sponsors. The 28-floor skyscraper has bypassed the 381-feet tall MCB Tower on II Chundrigar road as the tallest building in the country.

A formal inauguration of the towers took place on Saturday by Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Dr Farooq Sattar.

The chief executive officer of Siddiqsons Group and Triple Tree Associates, Tariq Rafi, said that the skyscraper was completed at a cost of Rs7 billion. The building materials used in its construction conform to the standards set by the Karachi Building Control Authority, enabling it to withstand earthquake shocks.

The towers were initially supposed to house the Sofitel chain of hotels, but they withdrew because of the violence in Karachi. The managing partner of the project, Abdul Rehman Naqi, said that a popular supermarket chain in the city would be the first store in the towers and would open its doors to the public, hopefully by May 25. “The upper half of the building, which will house corporate offices, will be completed by June 20. But as we have limited office space, I am not really worried about the other mall-cum-office projects being constructed elsewhere in the city.”
