Sumitomo Real Estate will be developing the plot of land that is now empty right next to the Ariake Tennis Colosseum. It will be a big mixed use development with several new buildings including 2 115m high residential towers. The whole project is called "ARIAKE Garden City~住・商・業・文化が複合したまちづくり~". The whole project should be complete in 2015.

info:
http://www.toshiseibi.metro.tokyo.jp...2/topi037.html

Stats for the 2 residential towers:

Height: 115m
floors: 33
function: residential
status: plan
start: ?
complete: 01/2015

Location:
Ariake, Koto-ku

Slowly but steady the whole Odaiba-Ariake area is being filled up will new buildings, when will we see the day that there aren't any building locations left?

These are from a questionnaire for Airiake Residents that was distributed in March

It just shows 1 tower, this might be a change from the original plans. We'll probably know more when this project goes U/C.

The 1st and 2nd Tekko Buildings in Marunochi between the Marunochi Trust Tower and the Sotobori Dori at the back of Tokyo Station will be redeveloped. As you can see on the pictures below the newer skyscraper have been constructed right next to these two buildings, but the redevelopment will include a 140m high office tower. The buildings will be very close to each other, it will be interesting how they are going fit everything.

Height: 140m
Floors: 25
Function: office

Start: Autumn 2012
Complete: Spring 2015

For me, the biggest redevelopment yet to come is the reconversion of the Shinagawa rail yard. It will surely not be as tall as Shiodome or Shibuya projects, but there's room for a lot of buildings, at least 10 (potentially!). And the height limitation is a factor that could encourage a big number of buildings. It would be an inestimable addition to the skyline if they build an entire row of 150m. buildings. A second China wall!!

Just for fun, I made a top ten of the coming redevlopment in Tokyo. Any comment welcome.

Some news about #10 on the list.

The sale of Tepco's current HQ isn't 100% official yert, but it's becomes more and more likely that it will happen soon. Nikkei now reports that Tepco is talking about moving to the Ariake Central Tower (101m, 2011) in Ariake. That tower has more available floor space then their current HQ, they could in theory move in tomorrow.

news:
http://kenplatz.nikkeibp.co.jp/artic...120402/563509/

And this of course means that the redevelopment of Hibiya 1-chome is also a step closer. It actually looks like that Nikkei wrote this article after seeing Braillards map.

They said on Japanese tv this morning that they will replace the last 23 meters of the antenna with a new one, so for a few days the height of Tokyo tower will go down to 310m.
So I don't think they will go with scaffoldings till the top.

It depends on how they are going to replace it.

If they cut it of and lift it of with a helicopter they don't need to go all the way up. If they are cutting it in pieces from the top and take it down along the tower they will have to go up to the top.

Shibuya is actively promoting the fashion business in an area between Tokyo Station and Omotesando. This new project is part of this plan with a 67m high mixed use building with shops, offices and workplaces for companies in the creative industrie and 115 rental apartments on the top floors.

The design of the building itself isn't really spectacular, but the shops on the 1st few floors will be a very good addition to the area.

Current situation (my picture Sep. 2011) The small shops do look fun, but the new development will be better for this spot.

Wow such a shame,Tokyo is losing another part of its soul. These shops are the funky kind of places that give Tokyo some sort of identity. Trust me when I say this, most people who are really in to fashion and need inspiration will always go to these small little indie boutiques because they are often original and the people who run them are actually passionate about the clothing style they are selling.I don't really oppose this building I think it's nice, but I wish it was developed in a newer area.

For this little row of shops it's fate was sealed by the sorry state of the apartment buildings behind it. And to redevelop this location with the old shops would have been impossible.

But I do hope that the city and developers continue to provide places for these kind of small shops.

New Project

TOKYO 東京 | Kanda-Nishikicho 3-Chome Joint Building Plan 神田錦町3丁目共同建替計画 | 92m | plan

http://www.kensetsunews.com/article....&class=pickups

This new project was announced today in the construction press. It's the redevelopment of 2 blocks in Kanda-Nishikicho 3-Chome (22 & 24). Several smaller buildings will be replaced by 1 office tower and a green open "disaster prevention" space. The tower will be 91.6m, but that could be the roof height. There's a possibility that it will be a bit taller. It will go U/C this November, it's another project that is announced that will start in this current year. Although the redevelopment was already known and in progress, the details of the new building just hadn't come out yet.

stats:
height: 91.6m
floors: 18 + rooftop structure
function: office
status: plan/demo
start: November 2012
complete: March 2015

location:
Kanda-Nishikicho 3-Chome, Chiyoda-ku
http://g.co/maps/cdxjk

Part of the plan is the partial rebuilding of the former Hakuhodo Head office Building (博報堂旧本社ビル) that was demolished in 2009, the original dated from 1930.

http://blog.goo.ne.jp/asabata/e/db31...ab72749faa66fe

Right next this project is this tower that should be U/C right now.

TOKYO 東京 | Nishikicho Trade Square 錦町トラッドスクエア | 83m | U/C
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...&postcount=152

But I haven't seen any updates, so I don't know the exact status of construction right now.

The 2nd tower of the redevelopment. This seems to be a bit further in the redevelopment process then the taller tower. It's expected to start construction this year, but only when it will get it's final approval.

Height: 135m (assumption)
Floors: 41
Function: residential tower + mall

Start: 2011
Complete: 2015 (plan)

Location:

Hiroshima Station, Hiroshima.

It looks like I totally didn't notice a design change in August 2011 for this project. It was scaled up quite a bit, up to 49 floors.

Therefor I can now bring this as new positive news now more details have come out. This tower will now be 50 floors tall and have a height of 180m.

With this we should see 2 tall towers U/C at the end of the year, as the 200m South Entrance B Block is also planned to start construction in December.

Pleasently surprised by the height increase. Also the new design looks better than the previous one, (but still not pretty in my opinion -_-').

Tokyo Tower straightening work.

04/19

The scaffolding is going up to the top, but it looks like they just covering it up for the workers to be protected from the wind.
