if there is gonna be such a huge road then strict traffic rules shud be applied from the begining and also people shud not be allowed to cross the road and compulsory use subway or overhead bridge instead...

Yes they have designed road this way only.BRTS and Metro will have different alignment .... Metro will go towards Gandhinagar while BRTS will be directly linked with Ahmedabad. I think so Metro will have GIFT City - Gandhinagar - Ahmedabad route |

Considering total area of 800 acres, there is ample need of walk to work system. Moreover, BRTS and Metro should not go through same route. For longer distance metro should be used and for short we must use BRTS. That's for inside roads and building blocks BRTS is good but for main skyline and expressway Metro would be good.

In the older plans, there was supposed to be a transport hub in the center of the city where all transportation systems would merge. Maybe that will be the place where the metro and BRTS would meet.
People from GNGR and AMD can arrive by metro, disembark, and switch over to BRT for internal transportation. It will also be great if they provide covered pavements throughout the city. It will reinforce their concept of 'walk-to-work'. The buildings can have all the district cooling they want but outside it will be still 40 degrees. Not exactly the weather for taking a walk. |

80 meters is good size road. Not too much. SP Ring road is 60 meter but I wish they had also put 80 meters there. Acquisition is under proposal. Yet farmers haven't got any notice of acquisition. But it is not made up things. It is sure thing that 283 acre of additional land is under acquisition. I hope Government and farmers will work out some mutual rate for acquisition. |

X-posting from Ahmedabad BRTS thread:
BRTS to GIFT City ![]() A debate over improving connectivity to Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) city has been vexing the state government for long. With nearly 10 floors of 22 of the towers ready at GIFT SEZ site , the urban development department is mulling over the feasibility of taking a BRTS up to the heart of the project. The discussion is on for the last one month in the state urban development department. The new transport may also require a new bridge to be constructed across the Sabarmati river between Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) and GIFT city. Since metro-rail is taking its own sweet time and that it will be quite a while before the rail completes its two phases, it seemed prudent that the BRTS be a sure shot transport for the finance city. The plan which was discussed amongst closed circles in the top bureaucracy. “There are critical issues to be dealt with before the idea is approved. This plan involves running BRTS and Metrorail parallel to each other for nearly 11 kilometers which means competing for passengers. The second issue being whether GIFT should have a choice for alternative transport like the BRTS, which will be cheaper than a metro rail. The BRTS will have a greater reach into the talent pool that stays in Ahmedabad. Thirdly investors who are interested to come to GIFT will consider accessibility to the place as its not only the software professionals who will work there, but a gamut of workforce that will involve class II, class III,” says a senior official in the urban development department. Other issues that would be dealt with will be environment clearance for the PDPU bridge towards GIFT city. “The BRTS can come up at one-third the cost of a metro rail and can be a faster project to implement. Besides by the time phase III of the Ahmedabad BRTS comes up in the next two years, almost every corner of Ahmedabad will be linked. This will be quite helpful for GIFT city, “adds the official. The urban development department may have to float a special purpose vehicle (SPV) on the lines of the Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL) to overlook the construction of the BRTS network which will be undertaken from Chandkheda towards Koba circle, the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar highway and then turn right towards Gift city via the PDPU and Gujarat National Law Univesity (GNLU) road. The new route if approved will also see BRTS cross a new bridge to a reach GIFT. |

![]() How bad is this- The local media dont have the basic info about the biggest project in its vicinity. ![]() Anyways great news for GIFT. BRTS is a much, much better option than metro rail, perhaps for now. At least we can expect it to be completed in a couple of years, while the metro, as said in TOI, is taking its own sweet time.

I personally don't feel that BRTS should be used to connect two cities. Because this will create a larger system and at some point in future may be in 2020 BRTS will create a traffic problems in their own lanes only and thus increasing travel times. One can see today in BRTS corridor between Shivranjni and Chandranagar. Now this case is rare but increasing system length will inject more buses and passengers but the lanes will remain same. So do you guys believe that in 2020 also BRTS will be effective in our city? Though Metro is going at slow pace and I think so GIFT will also be on limelight around 2015 after completion of its first phase in 2014 and we can hope metro by 2015 in Ahmedabad. |

![]() BRTS for GIFT should be a temporary solution. The two towers will have people by the end of this year, so a public transport is needed as fast as possible. Also there should be a special bus service from 4-5 important locations in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar to GIFT until BRTS comes. The final plan should be a metro link to the city. However it must be ensured that BRTS is connected to all those metro routes that go to GIFT city. At the end, all of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar must be directly or indirectly connected to GIFT. Also this BRTS route to GIFT will ensure that a bridge will be built from PDPU to GIFT. Thus even private commuters will benefit from this. I hope they build a 8 lane bridge and the design should be such that it corresponds to the scale of GIFT. Although this proposed bridge more or less lies over the proposed location of Signature bridge (at the southern end of GIFT). |

Are these two buildings meant to accommodate the labourers? I think that is the logic with only building two building at this point. I think once there is proper lodging facility for the workers only than the construction will begin in full swing.

No, they are commercial towers. The labourers already have a lodging close to the site. Btw these are glass structures, you expect them to build glass structures for labourers? Lol

Not even the Shaikh of Dubai will build such costly buildings for labourers . Seriously, district cooling, automatic garbage disposal for labourers ??? Then what will they have for millionaires? Diamond plated skyscrapers?? Solid gold walls??
